Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Brand new or demo ?

When I bought a Tig 125TSI on the 24th of December, the salesman said that the car would arrive on the second week of January. But on the 31st of December he gave me a call and said that it arrived (before schedule) and ready to be picked up.

So the question is, should I trust him ?

On the other hand, how do I know they don't try to give me one of their demo ones or a car driven by one of their staff ?

I thought it would take them at least a few weeks to get a new car registered, inspected, tested... before it is available for the customer to pick up.

Please give me some advices on how to deal with this.

    Thanks.

Considering you bought it on the 24th Dec and it would have been available 2nd week Jan, it would have been a car in stock somewhere in Australia.

The estimate of 2nd week Jan would have included whatever time they thought it would take to have it shipped from wherever to your dealer. I would not worry about it, it probably means shipment was quicker than expected.

Subject to the normal checks (as mentioned elsewhere here) and appropriate delivery kms, I'd say be happy its ready early. Some of us waited months for their cars ....

If it's new it would have next to no mileage on it. Otherwise they'd have to have a very good reason for the distance covered.

Every new car is driven somewhere along the line. When they are at the factory, loading onto the boat, loaded onto the transporters and driven at the dealership. As long as it doesn't have hundreds of kms on it I wouldn't worry about. No new car will have 0 on the clock. Just go over it really good.

50km is the max you'd accept on the clock for a new car, unless there was a good explanation. If they're transporting them around from dealer to dealer, or doing things such as fitting a towbar or tinting, they disconnect the speedo anyway
Check when first registered, should also be late 2009 build

Many new cars are test driven. But most drives are very little more than 'around the block', so I wouldn't be all that concerned. Certainly a dealer demo, or car driven by a salesman, will have way more than the 20 to 50 kms that most new cars have.

I drove two brand new, non demo, Tiguans a couple of weeks ago. Both gently and not very far.

BTW, I did read somewhere that the dealers can actually reset the odo, as long as it's showing less than a 100 k or so. So a car with zero would have been reset at some point. Of course that could well be an internet myth.

New clocks can be wound forward to reflect the true mileage. Not sure a dealer would get into winding them back. Can you imagine if that fact got out??
