Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi there this a great install and clever way to conceal the amps in the spare wheel well. Can you tell me how the amps are hooked up to the stereo? Did you use line outs for the front speakers and sub?

Also what size speakers are fitted in the front and rear doors of the Tiguan?

The fronts are 6.5" drivers in the door and tweeters up in the top bit, the rear speakers weren't replaced and are switched off - you want the sound coming from in front of you for correct imaging.

I didn't do the install so I don't know much about that, FHRX Studios did it in Caringbah.

Looks like an awesome setup, just wondering how much FHRX charge for the actual install (exclude speakers and amp)?

I am still trying to figure out ways to get a clean output signal off RCD310, which does not have RCA out as far as I know.

There are a few options. It can be done easily and simply, just pay for the best line out converter you can afford, or spend the bucks on a quality amp with high level inputs. If running a sub, make sure it has RCA output to connect to your sub amp.

Thanks for the tip on line out converter. Unfortunately sub is out of equation as RCD310 unit clips all freqencies below 80Hz, plus reducing the boot space wont go well with the other half.

The thinking is to tap into the front speakers to amp new component speakers, then tap into rear speakers, filter out high and mid frequency, and amp the rear woofers only.

Wondering what the max speaker depth for front and rear would be though.

From memory, you have plenty of depth front and rear as long as you are prepared to make some deep spacers up yourself.

I had a sub in the boot of the Tig, but went with one of these in the Passat:

I had to go the Pioneer as it was the only one that would fit, but I am incredibly impressed with it - as were the installers, they were amazed at how good it sounded. In the Tig with more room, you could go the Focul unit which you can get in 8" or 10":

You could actually go two - one under each front seat. I was going to do that with the Passat, but have to relocate the bluetooth module under the drivers seat first.

                        Hi suparockin,

That looks fantastic. I hope it sounds as good as it looks.
My ambitions are slightly simpler to start with.
Is there already a sub woofer in a base spec 118 TSI?
Is there an easy audio feed in the rear if I fit my own amp and box sub?
Can I just split off from a rear door speaker feed and if so where's the easiest point to tap into it?
Does the head unit have a line out for a sub?
What's the easist route to run cables front to back?
Where's the easist point to get a power cable through the firewall?

If there's already a thread on the subject please point me at it.
The only audio threads I could find seem to focus on changing the head unit.

                        Thanks for any help.

Marty is great, nice guy and a straight shooter. Unfortunately there are a lot of crooks and dodgy people in the install business so it pays to choose someone reputable.

I'd also like to know where to route a power cable from the battery and through the firewall into the car for my amps.

I've just ordered an Audiocontrol LCQ-1 to take the feeds for front & rear speakers, and it also routes a bass only signal for a subwoofer. I'm going to use an active Vibe 12 inch with a fastplug connector so it can be removed easily. Personally I'm not too keen on the flat design subwoofers shown above.

You could use the hole in the firewall that has the blanking plug, almost every brand has them, if they make the car for left and right hand drive markets.
