Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have had the same load. Because of the width of the child seats, they can only be put in the outer positions, leaving the adult with about 12 inches of hip space squeezed between them. cosy, but not unmanageable.
As the kids are boosted up and the front seat backs rake back slightly, then the seat backs are in range for the kids feet with the row fully back. So if you brought the rear seat forward, you'd be in line for some serious kicking.
I have those plastic storage containers, can fit 3 across the back (one turned upside down as they are keystone shaped) then a couple stacked on top.
Everything else stacked around, including umbrella stroller. Makes for quick packing.
The Tiguan is about 200mm shorter than most other compact SUVs and this 200mm comes out of the boot length. A Territory is 400mm longer, giving you an outstanding boot size and outstanding weight bulk and fuel consumption.

I have an x-trail and yes it does have more boot space but with the new Tig now in my driveway,we have to rationalise what is packed in the boot when we go away with two tall boys at back. These were my wife's comments, "we must organise things a lot better with the tig when we go away". So, in other words I dont see any issue with the boot space, once you get behind the wheel for forget everything.

          no both are good walkers.

the older child used a base only booster which enable the child seat and the booster to fit on the 2/3 seat

Sure the Tig is smaller than most on boot space. But well we all bought it knowing that. WE originally discounted Rav4s because the back looked too small and then we bought a Tig whose rear area was even smaller

We figured we always carry too much crap and so a bit of forced rationalisation wouldn't be a bad thing, and hell the Tig was way more appealing than the other options.

Plus we also figured that for 95% of our driving, the Tig had all the room we needed, and for the other 5%, hell we could use a roof box, tow a trailer or leave the kids home with a can opener and baked beans. Mind you they are only 3 and 6 so result might be a bit..... Oh...hell...........we love 'em, guess its the roof box or the trailer.

WE recently did a camping trip - 2 adults, 2 kids, tents, tables, chairs, huge eski, clothes, tarp, sleeping mats, cooker, gas bottle yada yada yada and with careful packing, back seat forward and a roof box it all fitted in We even had some push bikes on a bike carrier and carried all that with the air con on half way and got 6.9 l/100klm from our tsi (petrol), including driving thru Brisbane. Gotta love the Tig.

From a family who always thought we needed a bigger car (and our last car was a sube outback), we didn't . Absolutely no regrets buying the Tig.

Has anyone tried to put a dog in the boot? How did they go?

Had a second look at the Tig today and what I thought was an ok boot now seems really tiny

It better be a small dog.

                  Something like that won't fit.

Care to be a little more specific on what sort of size/breed dog you're talking about? Small dogs (Jack Russell's, Foxie's, etc) up to medium sized dogs (Border Collie's, Lab's, etc) should be quite comfy if you only have one in the back. Anything on the larger side (Rhodesian Ridgeback, Alsatian, Rottie, St Bernard, Irish Wolfhound, etc) might be a little snug back there with the back seats up, but they'll be fine on shorter trips if they don't keep trying to turn around. Folding the seats down would make their lives quite comfy tho.

I don't actually class anything under the size of a Beagle as a dog. I've got a Lab

Reason for buying a new car is boot space for him and the golf clubs, daughter is a little over having his tail whip her face

I have a Border Collie... but he rides on the back seat.
Would have loved to put him in the back... but wasn't convinced there was a lot of room... and he isn't the best traveller at the best of times.

Over Christmas plan on probably doing the split back seat trick when we have lots of gear plus him to take to the coast.
