How to retrofit RVC ( reverse camera) in tiguan + Fiscon Basic plus + Kufatec IMA
They say they can retrofit MDI and a reversing camera BUT I will loose the Park Assist feature (where the car parks itself). I have 2 questions:
2. Can the camera be fitted without losing my Optical Park Sensors or Park Assist and will it have same functionality as factory fit.
Yes, that makes no sense to me. Why would fitting a reversing camera make you lose your optical sensors and hence, park assist? I have non OEM satnav, with RVC fitted AND park assist. It all works brilliantly.
Find someone that hasn't got their hand on it would be my advise.
OK Ive upload the photos to flickr and the links are all working again. Ive added a note about can high and low wires in RED in the body of the guide that you should be aware of.
For all those of you that require a signal wire off the reverse lights (in case you have another IMA other than kufatec or a non RNS510 screen) the reverse light wires are in the right side back small hatch (at least for a RHD car). open the hatch and down the bottom you will see 3 wires that go down into the floor of this small area.Negative is brown. The other two wires are both positive ( one for each reverse light). You can use wiretaps to tap into either of the two positive wires.
Thanks for uploading them again mate.
Really appreciate it.
I have them saved into a word document which will be made into a pdf incase they dissapear again.
I thought that running a signal from the reverse lights would throw a fault code due to the extra draw of power required.
I will have to source some wiretaps to tinker my RVC setup and hopefully i can get it to work off the reverse light wires.
Does your stereo still play music when the reverse camera is on?
I have a Kufatec Fiscon bluetooth unit, and have just retrofitted an RNS510 to the car.
The car was delivered with OPC and RVC. Obviously, I have lost my RVC for teh moment until I can get a VagCom and tinker away (I think it's module 57?)
I've also not got the turn by turn directions in the WHITE MFD, but again, I think it's a coding thing. Funny thing is, I have retained my steering wHeel controls which seems odd given what I have read of others' experiences. Before I go pulling apart half the roof lining trim at the rear, IS there also such a thing as a compass on our Aus delivered models that I need to unplug??
If anyone can help with what I should be looking for in correcting the above, it would be greatly appreciated.
Further, I was also wondering how you guys access the extra info on the MFD, like boost Litres etc etc. I can't seem to get that on mine (again, I have the Kufatec Basic plus Fiscon BT unit).
Also, regarding getting voice control on the RNS, using the Fiscon unit, is there a patch harness I can get that will provide the same Mic feed to the RNS for Voice activation? or is there a different mic I need to look into?
Thanks so much again,
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

With a non Kufatec system music will stop when RVC is engaged. If your system requires a reverse signal to operate (Kufatec detects this through the canbus so this is not needed) there will be no fault codes from the reverse lights as the current draw is too small as it is only sending a signal to the control module. This only applies to the signal wire. If you draw a bigger current such as trying to power a reverse camera itself then it will send a fault code i'm pretty sure.
Some people do have issues with the compass but i have not disconnected it and do not have any issues at all.So i wouldn't do this unless you run into trouble. The MFD plus option should just be at the bottom of your list when you have selected Kufatec in your MFD screens.
With regard to the MIC look on mav's My-gti site. You can run your Kufatec mic to the rns first then on link it to the bluetooth module or you can wire a seperate OEM mic to the RNS and leave the kufatec mic connected to the bluetooth module.

Thanks for the info mate.
I am going non-kufatek so i will need to wire up the signal to the reverse wires.
Considering powering the system off the rear 12V outlet however i have concenrs that it could cause battery drainage if it's powered that way.
Does the 12V outlet require the car to be on to receive power?
Couldn't you just hook the RVC/light to the same power source the original licence plate light was powered by?
Sorry for all the questions.
Don't want to ruin a $37k car though.
If you put a relay in the reversing light wires and use it to switch the power on and off from the 12v outlet or any other direct power source the Tig's "brain" wont know it's there. That's what I did with my front fogs when I retrofitted them and it worked a treat.

I read about the relay idea from your fog-light install.
the only problem is that i am not electrically minded in any way and hence would have to take it to someone to get it sorted.
It was the only alternative though if the rear 12v outlet draws power all the time and causes battery drain.
Thanks for the input, will consider it as an option.

I'm the same with electrical stuff but the relay is pretty simple. Basically it's just a switch that switches "another circuit" on and off when the main circuit switches on and off. So, in this case, when the reversing lights switch "on" the relay switches "on" the power from the 12v circuit to whatever you've got attached to it. They're really simple and quite cheap but because it's only a "switch" it doesn't cause additional drain on the main circuit so the Tig's brain doesn't notice anything going on !!
Hope that makes some sort of sense.
Cheers

The camera is always on when you are driving. You can link it to your control module as a video input instead or in addition to the RVC input if your control module has that option and if you want a chase view ( but too distracting so don't do it).
The rear 12v socket is a switched 12v source.
When the ignition is off there is NO power to the 12v plug so no power drain.
SIMPLE.No battery drain either then.Dont need a relay either.
There is no point taking power off licence plate light unless you plan to drive with your lights permanently on otherwise you will have no power to the camera.
The licence plate lights do NOT have bulb failure detection circuits so you can draw power from them if you still wish
The camera I fiited to my Caddy came with a wiring harness that included a relay/filter, the power source wire went to the back of the head unit with the signal cable. and i picked up the 12v feed to the head unit. the control signal was picked up from the reversing light circuit. the earth was was connected to an earth point at the rear of the vehicle
Probably not the right thread but not worth starting a new thread.
DIY av input. a really tight fit to fit 3 female rca connectors onto the small plate.Still enough room to close the glove box when connected to male plugs as well
