Yeah, I know what you mean.
the KW V3 of H&R coilovers would be the prefered option however they will be over twice as expensive.

I would consider these ones as an option however as they are pretty cheap.

Then again, i am going with the Zenec stereo and no one uses that either lol.

    • Could well be worth a try with the V3s being around $1800 USD. I just worry about ride quality, i've had firmly sprung cars in the past and you certainly wouldn't call them comfortable.

      • Personally I believe that coilovers is a waste on a Tiguan. Its not meant to be that sort of car.

Sport suspension, lowered, is as far as I'd take it. Even then the ride is bordering on unpleasant. Its great for handling and almost eliminates bodyroll but the ride suffers.

The Tigs ride quite hard already and taking it too far would ruin the car IMO.

Spend you money on other performance enhancing features and don't mess with the suspension too much ....

Other than that, hope to see you (finally) at some of the Brissy drives in the Tig ...

I was initially leaning towards just the H&R springs as i would still like to take the tig on some dirt tracks.

I do agree that you lose the functionality if you get the coilovers though as the minimum drop is 65mm and there is another 60mm that it can be lowered.

Might just stick with the springs and spend the rest on other go fast bits.
The downpipe might be a more useful item to splurge on.

Can't wait for delivery so i can take it for a spin and catch up with the vw/tig cruises.

            • Gearing - the ratios

Gents since we cant get the ratios, thought some quick testing to at least provide data for us on current gearing.

Below is based on displayed speed (speedo, so errors there), testing redline in lower gears which seems to be at 7000 and some calibration at lower revs for higher gears @ either 3500 rpm or 2000-2500 in case of 5th and 6th. I think 6th is slightly under 50klm/hr per 1000rpm, but its very close. I am least confident about the max speed and klm/hr/1000rpm for 2nd gear, but its pretty close.

Max speed in the lower gears was a little higher than I expected, as I had previously assumed a bit over 6500 was the effective redline.

              Gear Estimated klm/hr
              /1000rpm Max Speed @ 7000rpm* Comments
              1st 7.4 52
              2nd 13.3 93
              3rd 21.4 150
4th 30.9 216 may not redline in 4th, but go close
              5th 40 280 max speed of 220 would be at 5,500rpm
              6th 50 350 max speed of 220 would be at 4,400rpm

c'mon Sharkie - how's about those acceleration figures?

If you want to go on a dirt track, even just a decent dirt road, stay away from the springs ..... it drives like a GTI with the springs and any imperfection on the road is noticable.

It would only be one or two dirt tracks a year and the rest would all be normal road driving with a track day or two.

Probably still going with the springs as the dirt tracks are pretty much unsealed roads which my 20yo corolla can make it down.
