    It depends what you want.
I looked at upgrading the the 18's and decided i would rather get some aftermarkets as they can be more stylish and $2300 for stock 18" alloys is a bit expensive.
However the OEM wheels have been designed to go on the tiguan and some say they have better build quality.

Best bet is to go with the stocker's (16") and if you want to upgrade, then you can sell the 16's and get some money off the new wheels, and seond hand 18's might be cheaper.

If I could give me 2 cents, I suggest buying aftermarket, for the only reason that I'm looking for lighter wheels than stock, in my case I went with OZ Superleggera and I saved some weight on each corner. That is a good way to tune to gain some acceleration, brake power and cornering if that is your interest.

Have to remember that spacers can always "fix" offset problems ....

I may (or not hopefully) have to go this route .....

Actually would like to as it will give the Tig a really aggressive stance .....

I was led to believe that wheel spacers are illegal in Australia.
Or is this a sneak mod that would be too hard to spot?

Yes, illegal in most states. They are however very hard to spot. A number of guys on this very forum use them .....

How often have you seen a cop on his knees looking to see if there were spacers fitted ? .... especially on an otherwise very stock looking VW .....

I'm willing to risk it if it works ....

              Ahh okay.
I thought that might have been the case, hard to spot and not really looked at.

It does add another option if the offset won't work but if they are replica's they should also make them in more fitting offsets.

              Thanks for the update Sharkie.

Yeah I agree aftermarket is the way I am going now and the OZ racing wheels are definately a quality wheel, personaly I want some 19"s as thye 18" look like 17'on the Tiguan or any SUV for that matter.

As for wheels spacers I think as long as the bolt onto the hub they are legal(like most which are avaiable for VWs) and not just a floating spacer ring sandwiched between the wheel and hub, from memory I think some porches came out with factory fitted spacers of the bolt on variety.

Just saw the R6 whhels you have lined up Sharkie they look good, are they the copies available from Tempe tyres, they also had an aftermarket Fox R5 wheel which looks ok.

The question should be - Do you think an insurance assessor would look closely at a Tiguan wreck that will cost him a $50k payout, that probably would have bent and broken wheels?

Which is why I always declare aftermarket alloys to the insurance ..... it normally adds nothing to my premium and if you have it listed, they cannot deny a claim on it.

But now that Pullstarter has confirmed that ET42 18"s fit there is no need for spacers anyway ....

                          +1
Didn't cost me any extra either, and now they are listed on the policy, so no disputing it (I hope).

Biggest thing with insurance is to declare everything to minimise the loopholes.

If you're looking at some 'different' mods and concerned about speaking to them directly, use a broker and get them to make the inquiries for you.
