The definition of 'value' is relative worth or merit, so you can pay for all those extras and if they are of relative merit or worth to you then they are good value.

I wouldn't have bought a Tiguan if I missed out on leather/sat nav/sunroof and the performance of the 147.
I rarely keep a car longer than 3 years and at any point in time have at least 3 .... so to me trade-in (resale) value is important. You end up losing big $$$ if you don't consider it. On average I buy 1 new car a year ..... and have done so for the last 15yrs ....

If you spend $20K on options, you'd be lucky to get $2K back come trade time.

Also the 147's performance is identical to the 125 manual's so there is no extra value in that. Chip them both and the manual is by far the quickest.

Base 147 IMO is the best value (if you can live with an auto .... and I can't .... ) as it has some really nice std features in it. Speccing up a 125 to the same level means you've lost $10K the moment you drive it off the showroom floor. Base 125 is close 2nd best value .....

I'm not quite as bad, though not far off it, with 11 over the past 15 years.

You're quite right. Unfortunately, that's sometimes the only way to actually get what you want.

Just made that very decision. Whilst I would rather have bought a 147, I simply cannot live with that gearbox. A DSG I'd have in an instant, but not an old style auto. In our test drives, it seemed to sap all of the will out of the engine. So, to get a manual, we have to use a 125 as the start point.

The offset to the depreciation issue is simply to keep them longer, or at least to keep them in the family.

Thank you to some of the members on here for their help as well.
        Which dealer was this from?
I am looking at the exact same spec and the cheapest I could find was 38K

        • I've just put a deposit for:

          125TSI Auto Reflex Silver

          Metallic
          Leather
          Comfort Pack
          Fog Lights
          Media Interface

          $42, 000 drive away.

Delivery is expected to be at the end of January or mid January if I choose Mountain Grey instead of Reflex Silver.

The dealer says the car is built in November 2009 but the model year is 2010 (MY10). Should I wait or ask for a 2010 built ?

In regards to resale value, is there any difference between the two ?

          Thanks.

          • If you wait for 2010-build car, you could be waiting till May or even longer. As per the colour choice I would go for mountain grey (probably more in fashion). Resale value should not be much different between 2010 build and model 2010.

            • Also I believe they are halting production of the current model tiguan mid 2010 in order to start production for the mk2 Tiguan due for release in 2011.

I would leave it no longer than June next year if you are trying to get a 2010 built Tig.

              • Well we drove down to gold coast airport, flew to melb, caught a variety of excellent Vic public transport ( shame on you QLD transport) got picked up from the train station by sales person from burwin.

I must say that dealing with burwin was the best car buying experience I've had. No fuss, shown everything that we needed to know and out the door, felt like we were in and out in 15 mins. Same can't be said about drive back to bris

                  • Well we picked ours up on th 24th at 4:00pm. We were the last people in the dealership with the salesman.

All I can say what a great car. I have been driving it for most of Christmas.

Next stop in the new year is for an APR upgrade. The salesman was doing a good job selling the APR upgrade aswell not that it needed selling. So Guy I will be in touch when you reopen. Hopefully there will be some Australia day sale

                    Cheers

Change my mind on 19s, going to get some 20s after seeing them on another post, going to be looking even better shortly

                      • I've posted this on the 'tex but I thought I would try here as well to take advantage of all the tiguan owners.

My Girlfriend wants to get a good deal on a decently spec'd tiguan, the local Canberra dealer quoted $53,272. I got carbroker.com.au on the case and they sent the following:

                        Volkswagen 2009 Tiguan 5N 103TDI Wagon 5dr Spts Auto 6sp 4-Motion 2.0DT [MY10] with extras:
                        Metallic paint
                        Comfort Package
Headlamps - Bi-Xenon with Cornering Lamps
                        Leather with Electric Drivers Seat
                        Park Assist
                        Full Tank of Fuel

Best Price: $51,000 in Sydney NSW

                        *Factory order with bi-xenon lights.

Pricing above includes GST, 12 months registration and all on-road costs.

I'll have to drive to sydney to get it and change the rego to ACT on that deal.

Does that seem like a good enough deal...I tried the spreadsheet but couldn't work out how to do a good comparison.

Any hints and tips would be hand too.

                        • doc dogg, the retail price of your car as quotedby discount new cars (http://www.discountnewcars.com.au/vo...-volk09mr.aspx) is $52,946 (NSW). Based on the spreadsheet, I would look at a discount ranging from 8-12% odd the retail. I ordered my Tiguan from melbourne and have received a discount in that range.

I ordered a Tiguan 147 with leather, sunroof, metallic paint, boot inlay for $48,990. I had spoken to a VW tuning specialist in Melbourne who referred me to a dealer who knocked off $5k off the retail straight away.

Happy to help with details or an intro if you are keen on a Melbourne pickup.

When I bought my 125TSI auto last month I've got 12.21% discount ($5865 off RRP), but it was on a car they had in stock.

I also used carbroker.com.au but their price was thousand dollars higher than what I could get by myself.

With all the options you have, you should be able to get substantial discounts.

Local mob have quoted me $49,750 so there is still plenty of negotiating to do still

                              • Not sure if this helps, but I paid a touch under 51K for a 2010 Tig (yet to be build and delivered) with the following specs:

                                103TDI Auto
                                Metallic Paint

                                Sat Nav
                                Park Assist
                                Comfort Pack
                                Fogs
                                Tint
                                Mats

I did get a corporate discount - so not sure if that helps.
