How much should I pay... Tiguan pricing.

It might not be applicable here, but when I was looking at buying a Tiguan last month, the deal was on-roads AND first three services for free as part of their campaign to encourage people into VWs (as well as getting the five year DSG warranty). This was supposed to expire at the end of August.Originally posted by suparockin View Postthe dealer agreed to pay for the first service (not the first first one, that's free anyway).

I spent a lot of time considering a Tiguan. Test drove a number of them, but came to the conclusion that paying $50k for a Tiguan just didn't add up. They just don't feel like $50k+ cars, more like $30k cars. Did any of you guys consider buying a car that's 2-3 years old for the same amount. That way you can get a $90k car that's depreciated, for $50k yet it still feels, looks and drives like a $90k car.
I also got really turned off by the VW dealers. They all sprouted the same garb:
- trying to sell me the year model based on compliance date vs build date.
- telling me "there is only one left in the country"
- telling me "there's one coming on the boat, but you need to secure to TODAY!"
All bollocks.Last edited by Glyph; 30-08-2013, 12:54 AM.

Okay so there were no Titanium Beige cars in stock either.
Finally it seems I'll have to accept the Red one with the 300 odd kms on the clock as that's the colour my mum wants (the car is for her), the dealer agreed to pay for the first service (not the first first one, that's free anyway).
Not entirely happy but I have softened a little bit and blame the dealer I'm talking to a bit less and VW and the dealer they were getting the car from in Victoria a little more.
It still might be the last vehicle I buy from Peter Warren Campbelltown VW unless I get the car quick smart and there are no further issues with it.

So in the continuing saga....
I spoke to VW head office and asked them their opinion on the case, they stated that there is no official policy regarding registering cars as demonstrators and that there is no policy on the amount of KM's that can be on a car and still be sold as new. I scoffed at that and recounted the salesman's story that he was waiting for an official desk from VW Germany as they control everything in the dealers down to the last detail - how is it that there is no official policy which dealers must comply with on KM's? They took my name and number and said they will call me back.
The dealer called and said that actually the car has 387 kms on the clock and the build date could be 2012, he was waiting for confirmation of that. I told him to stick it and that we didn't want the car, he apologised and was very nice about it all and offered us a few other cars with the same options (just not the same colour - it seems Cherry Red is a hard colour to get a hold of).
Frustrating, I've asked him to check stock of the Titanium Beige as that was my second preference and am waiting on a call back.

Guest repliedPretty simple really, you tell them if you dont qualify for the promo, you walk to another brand. You hold the funds, you hold the power & never forget to remind them of that.Originally posted by suparockin View PostI looked at the contract and it seems to contain enough loopholes to let them out of practically anything, of course I didn't expect such a thing to happen.
They are saying that the price could go up if I don't take the car this month to qualify for the promotion, and yes that is also amazingly covered in the small print!
Am going to raise hell if I don't get my way tomorrow.

It doesn't change the fact that it is deceptive.
The guy probably knew that he had these options in a car that had been taken for quite a few test drives.
I reckon anything over 50km shouldn't be able to be sold as a new car - well actually 30km but I'm giving the dealer some wiggle room.

Problem you have is the contracts are heavily weighted in their favour, unfortunately unless you specify certain things like less than X km you can't to much unless the dealer agrees to it. The only wiggle room you will have is if you decide to jump ship to diesel like I did it gives you the second chance to negotiate but after it's signed it's locked in eddy.

I would sit tight and ask for the exact spec you've listed on a brand new car.
After all that is what the dealer has signed the contract saying they are going to deliver to you.
The contract works both ways
I'm sure they'd be mighty upset if you told them now that you were only going to pay them $40k (actually I'd go up to $41k on a 300km demo but I'm a hard negotiator).
And don't tell me that they can't find a car in the same colour with leather and a sunroof - tell them that you're happy to wait.
A new car "should" have under 20km on it - even if they have taken a prospective customer for a short drive in it.
Yes totally dodgy and the sales guy should be ashamed of trying to fob off a demo as new. Yes technically it may not have been registered and only driven with trade plates but it certainly has been "used" by the dealer. 300km is Sydney to Canberra - or maybe it got driven the other way now that the car is in Sydney...
The question I'd be asking the manager would be:
"If another dealer wanted to swap an identical spec car in different colour with your stock would you accept a car with 300km on it for one with 10km?"
I can guarantee you the answer would be certainly not.
I'd also check the build/compliance date of the car they're trying to fob you to see if it is a 2012 or 2013 build - check your contract to see if this has been specified.
If the dealer won't honour their contract I would ask them to refund your deposit and go somewhere else. Now you know what that spec car is worth you should be able to get that price or better somewhere else.
If they're trying to do the dodgy on you with this, what else are they going to dodgy - sell you a car that has already been to the panel shop?
If you don't get any satisfaction from the sales manager, then ring back and ask to speak to the dealer principal. Nothing hurts a business more than unhappy customers who talk (on forums
)and these guys know it's their brand that they are trying to grow/maintain (not just make sales).
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Dodgy.
I negotiated the following - $42,800
Tiguan 132 petrol DSG Pacific
Met paint
Auto
Leather
Sunroof
Scuff plates
Tint
Boot liner
Then...after signing the contract and paying a deposit a few hours later he called and said the car has 300kms on it - ie not new but a demonstrator!
I asked for a discount but he said there wasn't one and tried to tell me that 300kms wasn't a demo car.
Anyone had something similar happen? The manager is calling me tomorrow.

I was going to pay 35990 for an auto yes dsg 132tsi but we opted for diesel instead, leather is 4500 extra metallic is 700 extra so it's not a bad price, there would be a bit of room to move as the options are retail price and they are still struggling to make sales

Is that a DSG or 6 speed auto as the DSG usually carries a bit of a premium... I think the price is reasonable though there's a couple of base model autos (albeit MY12.5) going for $33k drive-away on carsales at the moment. Great if you're in Adelaide and looking to pick up a car cheap - the silver one also has 18" alloys by the looks ofthe photos but would check if that's the real car or just stock photos. So given these prices, I'd add on the cost of your extras (leather + sunroof) and aim for that. If you're getting a MY13 car you can perhaps add a bit of a premium but wouldn't consider more than $1,000.Originally posted by suparockin View PostHi folks,
I'm looking at a Tiguan 132 Pacific, met paint, Auto with Leather and sunroof for $42K drive away.
Good deal or not?
