Tyres - what did you get?

You can only match or go up from the original.
To get speed and load rating you have to contact a tyre supplier.
I believe mine are rated as 102Y but the originals were 96 or 98 I believe..
I don't know if tirerack actually allow credit card purchases in Australia so you may have to do a money transfer to them.
Maybe check on that before you go ahead with a purchase.
Option1Garage deal with kumho as they are more of a Jap spec garage but tyres are universal.Last edited by team_v; 24-04-2012, 11:18 PM.

When purchasing from TireRack also enquire about the DOT and where the tyres are actually manufactured.
Ideally you'd want all four corners to be roughly the same age and origin.
Have seen some threads in the past (on other forums) whereby you do get what you pay for and why the prices are so cheap.MY11 Tiguan 147TSI (SOLD)

I'm looking for new tyres for 19"x8.5".... Is there a 'best' fitment tyre size? I'm thinking of something fatter (for grip and looks) and a good compromise between comfort n handling.
255/40 or 255/45?
245/40 or 245/45?
In terms of brands...? I know Kumho's, Bridgestone's are favorites amongst regular members here.
I have also read that Tirerack is a good place to start. That website really has heaaaaps of tires!! And I'm getting myself confused! Seems a lot of ppl are getting good bargains there! And yes I must rem abt the duties and taxes if it's more than A$1,000.
Im using Dunlop sport maxx tt 245/45/19...been told thats the best size without scratching the fender n mudguard...
for comfy 45series would b d most ideal tyres...
As for brands...i saw great reviews on goodyear asymmetric 2 which has 245/45/19...
So far review on the dunlop sportmaxx tt im using...good grip with minimal noise level...but i heard some folks asking me to drive slower n brake earlier during wet n rainy days...but i yet to encounter any slip..touchwood...
hope it helps...cheers!!2012 CW Tiguan 155kw 7spd DSG | Keyless Entry with Push start | DCC/ACC | RNS510 | Osir Front lip | Custom Exhaust with quad Remus tips | Caractere Rear Spoiler | Maniac CF p-shifter extension | Sports pedals | 19" Breyton GTS AV w 245 45 Dunlop SportMaxx TT | S3 intercooler | K&N drop-in filter | Eibach prokit springs | ABT Front Grill | Whiteline rear 24mm Swaybars | Eyelids | ABT Stage 1 Piggyback | Cosworth 4pot 355mm slotted BBK | TRD aka Sprint booster with 21 settings |

Thanks bro Gary abt ur experiences w the sizes and also w the brands/models. There are a heap load of tires out there to choose from and good to hear what u have heard too.might go read the GoodYr Asymmetrical 2's.
Thanks for the list of fitments Diesel_v. Appreciate it! That's really useful! But I'm just wondering why there's a gap from 235 to 255? Are 245's not that good?

My B-stones are 245/40 19's. I reckon i'm onto a good thing & will get the same again without hesitation or worrying about 'shopping around' (apart from for a fair price). They've done around 20K & are maybe 1/3 worn.Current: MY18 TRANSPORTER CrewVan, Indium Grey

Hi anyone had experience with VW 18 8J inch rims fitted 255/55 tyres? Will the Tiguan fender arches have enough clearance to accommodate them? What will be the impact on road holding and fuel consumption?
Current OEM 16 rims showing some serious signs of wear and tear. The Bridgestones fitted have just done 60k and have another 5 to 10 k of life. Bit noisy at times to the point I thought a rear wheel bearing was on it's way out but there again it's the north qld roads we are talking about!MY 21 T Cross 85TSI Life| Makena Turquoise | Driver Assist Package |

The rolling diameter will increase more than the legal amount and your speedo will be inacurate enough to be an issue.
18x8 should be able to fit a 245 wide tyre.

I would say 255/55 would be the limit for space in teh wheel arch though.

In ascending order:
245/40 R19 is half a step down in size, equivalent to 210/65 R16 (if such a tyre existed).
255/40 R19 is practically identical to 215/65 R16.
245/45 R19 is one step up in size, equivalent to 228/65 R16 (if such a tyre existed).
255/45 R19 is two steps up in size, equivalent to 235/65 R16.

As to whether they would physically fit, I couldn't say for sure.Last edited by Diesel_vert; 25-04-2012, 06:15 PM.
