  • Something In The AC Has Lot Its Mind

    Hi all,
Has anyone heard of AC vent controls going haywire?
Buzzing, flicking, ticking MANY times a second under/in the dash... Like a relay endlessly trying to do something, but failing (wild guess).

The only other AC related issue, might be connected... AC does nothing, and occasionally throws a fault on OCD for last 5+ years. IIRC, back then, I could only get AC working if I did things manually, not auto/climate control.

Car is kinda damp/smelly. Windows always fog. Tools in the boot always rusting.

I'll try upload a video to youtube

A bad blend door motor will most likely cause the noise you mentioned; when the position sensors fail on them, they will open and close on repeat.

You can use a scan tool to work out what motor has failed and then replace it based on the erWin guide or a similar online guide like here Volkswagen Tiguan Service and Repair Manual - Adjustment Motors - Air Conditioning

        Thanks for the comments.
Sorry for not replying, personal issues.

        No sunroof.
I reckon it sounds like that blend motor thing. Surprised it hasn't burnt itself out, or tripped a fuse etc.
My mechanic gave me his legit scantool to play with, while sitting in his driveway. All I could find was intermittent AC code showing. Gave no real info, and after resetting, it didn't return while there. Not sure if/when it does.

Thanks for the link, I'll read-up

It will almost certainly be the blend door motor/actuator. I just replaced one on my brothers car (Skoda) a few weeks ago. The housings fall apart and then the little gears start slipping and stripping and make that horrible noise.

Dont buy a cheap Chinese ebay or Aliexpress version as they just dont last. Get a genuine VW one.
