Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan 2015 media player upgrade? MIB2

Hi guys I have been searching the web on this topic for months and can't find any clear information.

I really love my 2015 R-Line Diesel Tiguan but I'm not happy with the RCD510 media player.

Has anyone actually ever upgrade their media player to something better. Either third party or the new MIB2 which the 2017 models have?

Does it work and what is involved?
    Please help

You can't install exactly the same unit as the MK2 Tiguan as it's physically a totally different setup.
You can install the Discover Media unit from an MY16 Tiguan however.
This is physically the same size as the rcd510 but it has the same interface and features as the brand new MIB2 ie navigation, Carplay/Android Auto etc

Does the discovery media unit from the MY16 have content protection requiring a hacked unit?

        Yes it has Component Protection.
So the unit has to be physically patched to prevent the CP lockdown timer from being invoked
