I looked into this. The VW motors are well known for getting gunk in the inlet manifold/throttle body restricting the airflow from the oil vapour coming back through the EGR. A catch can is an (Expensive) solution for this (too late for my elderly Tiguan), or a (cheap) blanking plate (also available on EBay). You will get blank stares if you ask the dealer/specialist about it, as it is illegal as it disables some of the anti pollution system. There is a foam you can spray in which absorbs some of this, sets and is blown out as particles.
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km

I’ve used the Seafoam treatment in my manifold before. Makes a big difference once it comes out from the exhaust. Once I get the carbon build up cleaned I will invest in a catch can. I looking @ the Forge Motorsport catchcan which connects to existing pcv value.
Is that the one with a Africa plate? I was told it’s only good if you take it to the track, not needed for everyday driving?
Yes, with the plate that replaces the factory PCV.
I don't quite see how you could do the job properly without the Afrika plate.
Everyday driving, I empty about 300ml of oily gunk every 2nd fuel fill. Ideally, you'd have a ball valve on the bottom of the catch can with a tube attached so that you could empty it every week.

Mine cost me about $250 (before I saw them on Aliexpress). That's not a lot of money. I don't think it's ever too late to fit one.
The chemical clean is helpful but no substitute for removing the manifold and mechanically cleaning the inlets. I've done both over the years.
I'm not aware of any blanking plate for the TSI, so I assume you have a diesel. Diesels need a much better catch can than the TSIs.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

Has anyone successfully fitted a catchcan to a MK7 Golf TDI?
Also i am looking at fitting the Racingline catchcan to the golf R when it gets here, any feedback on one of these?
