My Tiguan has arrived and this is my experience so far
I agree. There are advantages to factory servicing. Is that worth the extra expense? It’s up to your own cost benefit analysis.
Your good news story is from Mazda though. Mazda/Hyundai/Kia/Subaru could certainly teach the Germans a thing or two about customer service and after sales support. VW/Audi/Skoda would never volunteer a firmware update or do one iota more than they have to during a service and that includes programs to address hardware issues.
Case in point, my MY13 A6 Allroad had issues with clunking from the rear hatch. I took it back to several different dealers on four or five different occasions. All wanted to start fault finding from scratch as no central record existed of what had been done to diagnose the problem. Finally I took it to Zetland and they finally mentioned that there had been a bulletin out for that very fault for 3 years. They then had the hide to attempt to extort money out of me to fix it as it was out of warranty. When I showed them the paper trail of attempted fixes they agreed to fix it under good will. There was no way they weren’t.
The reason for this lack of motivation to volunteer to fix known problems, or to do firmware updates is that they are being paid by the factory to do the work, not by the customer. You can bet the factory aren’t paying the same scandalous prices they’re charging the customer. There is no incentive for them to do this type of work for $40/hr when they charge a customer $140/hr. can’t blame the dealers for that, it’s just good business for their franchise. Does nothing for the brand though.
As for firmware, I know for a fact they are only completed if the customer complains something is malfunctioning. Like Bluetooth won’t connect etc. They will then apply a firmware update to fix that specific problem. If you think that just by taking your car in for regular service will mean the car will always come out of the service with up to date firmware you’re mistaken.
I was talking to the owner of an A6 recently who lived in a country area. His closest Audi dealer was 90 mins away. He contacted them about getting a map update and was told that the maps in his car can’t be updated. He even showed them the part number for the new maps but the just flatly refused to help. He was obviously going to pay for it but the lazy pr1cks just wouldn’t budge.
The price for Mazda dealer services are half that of VW. Not that it mattered, I still switched back.
BTW with the Discover Pro you can DIY map updates via the Internet.

You can do map updates for three years, then you have to pay for it. So keep your maps up to date while you can.
Unfortunately the pre-MY15 C7 A6 doesn’t have the discover pro, it has the MMI 3G+ which has never had free map updates. The cost of each was around $500 at a stealership. If they could even be bothered doing it.
Well after waiting patiently for 2 months for our replacement Tig, "Old one" 5 weeks old got damaged in a fire it finally arrived today, interestingly drives on Pirelli Scorpions rather than Conti's. . Try and look after this one! Well at least its got a brand new garage to park in

When they say to IR bake the sealant, I don't think they mean to set the garage alight!
Wow.
Glad everyone is ok.
Picked up our Allspace tonight, haven't driven it yet as it's the wife's car. However noticed a few things on the way home from the dealership.
- Seems quieter in the cabin than my Tig with less wind noise, mine seems to come from the mirrors.
- Noticed on the way home the Infotainment screen has a line down it, only saw it on a menu with lots of grey background once we'd left the dealership
- Ride is very nice, the extra length and 19" rims softens the ride quite noticeably, but then again I'm in Sports mode 100% of the time in my IS38 modded Tig.
- Like the Dynaudio, really appreciates high bit rate music via Spotify Premium, sound is nice and crisp with good base from the sub. Comparing to my regular Tig with the Pioneer WS-610 I couldn't really pick a big difference. If anything the Pioneer sub gives better base at this point. I do expect the sound in the Allspace to improve once the speakers wear in/loosen up a bit, but not sure if it's massively better than the regular sound system.
- Like the Blue silk color, looks very smart.
- Dealership could have done a better job on cleaning the car, found a reasonable amount of sticky residue in various places from the coverings on it from ship transporting.
- Could be my imagination but the headlights seem brighter, it does have dynamic light assist, the function was turned on. But don't believe it was in action due to the city lights.
- Will get some photos organised, was late in the day to get any good ones due to the poor light
- I thought the newer infotainment screens had gesture control, couldn't for the life of me get it to work once. Had to physically touch the screen to go left/right etc.
- The seat warmer temperatures are different compared to my Tig, mine is much warmer (find i can only leave mine on maximum for a few minutes at most to warm it up and then turn back to 1). On the Allspace I had it on one and was struggling to feel it
- Leather on the seats is much more taunt on the Allspace, always thought on my Tig the leather was quite relaxed and looked almost loose.
Will get a drive in the coming days and try out TJA and DLA
Have some work ahead tomorrow giving it a full detail, clay, paint cleanse, wax and then paint sealant....
Dashcams and tint coming as well in the near future, perhaps a towbar as well.
DLA capable lights have a far brighter high beam, where do you park it and are they they easy to get out ?

Have to get out onto the open road at night to give it a proper test. Still feel the headlights are slightly brighter than mine, even parked in the driveway.
I really noticed how good LED headlights are when shifting my old Kruger with halogens tonight. I thought I only had the parkers on cause the yellow glow just wasn’t bright enough.
As as for the Allspace, really enjoying the torque in the 162TSI. Still getting used to the throttle sensitivity, and haven’t quite found the right seating position. I have the seat about a third of the way up in lift as I feel the dash and wheel are high when the seat is set lower.
All the bloody beeping with sensors and door ajar and car not in park are doing my head in. Have to get used to thatrims are going to be easy to scratch, they are flush with the tyres.
The last thing for now is the R seats have a high edge - super comfy when driving, but getting out they dig in a bit to your thighs...
So a few owners have reported a slight clunk from their Tiguans, I somewhat have that same light clunk - although it's only from the RHS and only when I enter a driveway where the RHS wheel hits it first.
I reported this to the Service department at VW when I brought our Tiguan in for it's 3000km courtesy check. They tried to replicated it but of course "didn't hear it" but went on to tighten up the subframe and a few things here and there. All I can imagine they did was pop it up on the hoist and hit every nut/bolt with a impact wrench (I would have done the same thing, but it's a new car under warranty so not getting my hands dirty).
Anyhow, the service manager did say the car is settling in, so give it a another 5000km or so and monitor to see if the noise is there.
I also did ask if I could bring my own filters and oil for the service and they said that's fine they will just deduct the oil/filter off the capped price servicing total - which is pretty good, so when it's due for service the Tiggy is definitely getting Liquimoly instead of the Castrol Edge stuff (which is more than enough for a road car, but I am planning to take it to the track a few times as well for fun).

Interesting observation. I have noticed a similar “Clunk” or squeak from the suspension on the RHS. Our car has done about 18,000k and is 1 year and 10 months old. Only noticed in the last 4 weeks.
This only developed recently and only occurs when turning left into our driveway.
After 5 weeks of ownership I have been generally happy with my new Tig.
The 162 has good punch, but would love there to be a setting between normal and sport - Sport holds onto the gears for too long and normal requires too much depressing of the right foot to get moving.
Comfort setting on DCC is pretty good for day-to-day driving
Most other things have been good, but still trying to find the best seating position... too many options I think.
I've been driving my 162TSI Sportline full-time for the last month. Here's my thoughts on what works/doesn't work for me and what I find annoying.
Firstly I have to say I quite like it even in stock form. My wife didn't want to hand over the keys and I understand why. It's a nice place to sit. The panoramic sunroof is great on sunny spring days. It's pleasant to drive on the highway and after a long journey I'm not totally exhausted. In comparison to the Scirocco it's a much more relaxing car to drive on long drives.
The 162TSI has got decent pulling power on the highway for overtaking. Off the line "D" is a bit doughy. You really need to bump it into "S" if you need to get going / want the car to respond with a level of urgency. But then "S" mode hangs onto the gears a bit long for stop/start city traffic and this gets a bit annoying. So I mainly leave it in "S" and hit the cruise button as soon as I'm up to speed which helps with shifting into higher gear. So it's a bit of a work-around but mostly works OK.
A couple of things that I found a little annoying. The fact that the Haldex engages at low speeds and locks up the rear wheels causing the rear tyres to scrub is a mild concern (more details here). Stop/start is just plain annoying as it often cuts out just when you least want it to like stopping at a Stop sign and then have to restart almost straight away. The nag screen on the head unit that comes on every time you drive and won't go away until you clear it.
I'd have to say the seats in the Sportsline are not quite as supportive as the Sports cloth seats in the old 155TSI Gen 1 Tig. I find I still slide around in the Sportline seats as the side bolsters are too low and the seat too flat. But that's just mildly annoying when driving a bit harder. For general day to day use they're fine.
Adaptive Cruise works well, however it's default setting is 3 bars and I find in city traffic that's just too far. So I end up cycling through every time I start the car to set it to 1 or 2 bars which is a bit annoying. Also it does tend to cut in/hang onto cars longer than I'd like but I think that's pretty standard for adaptive cruise control systems (my previous car did this also but perhaps not quite as much).
Adaptive dampers are good - usually leave it in the middle setting as comfort is a bit too soft around corners and sport does let more of the bumps/uneven road surface through.

I find the R-line seats are well bolstered but just make getting out a little uncomfortable

With the R-line 20” rims I find comfort is great for day to day driving and jump straight to sport for a bit of fun

Many of the annoying things can be deactivated using obd11
