I used VWFS through the dealer purely for the VW choice program where the balloon is the guaranteed value in 4 years.. ended up on about 6% as an interest rate. Repayments are about the same as any other finance companies.
Paint protection is also better through a 3rd party detailer.. for what you get i recommend holding off and using the cash saved to find a good detailer. (But this is only my opinion)
I also found that QBE car insurance will offer a 4 year new for old replacement with their insurance.. so as long as I don't void warranty I don't have to worry if the car breaks down or if it gets written off I'll get a brand new one
Thanks mate, It does seem like a long time between ports (I also have no idea, germany to Melb is 4 weeks then its a long time). Have different arrangement with financing our Tig, though another comment said 6% from vw care doesn't sound too bad. Would check fine print.
No paint protection for me, used to be into detailing in previous life so will keep the wax up to it and should be ok.
Looking forward to hearing your progress with pickup dates etc also pics to make my wait more painful
Our Tiguan is about to arrive and my wife questioned whether it will be big enough considering we will have 2 kids soon (4 year old and new born). She started to think the Toureg may have been a better size option but we both agree that the look of the Tiguan is unbeatable. Too late to change now but just gathering some opinions from others on the forum regarding the size for small families?
Remember the rear seats can be moved forward to liberate a bit more carrying space, which should be fine given the age of your young uns. The Tiguan Allspace (7 seater) is due around mid year and is bigger than the regular Tiggy (and only a touch smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq). If you like the look of the Tiguan it may fit your needs better than going right up to the Toureg.

I agree with Rooboy. The ability to slide the rear seats forward makes it easier to fit prams and pushchairs - when you need to. I guess your 4yo won't be caught dead in a pushchair anymore so you'll only be carrying one. I've only slid the seat forward twice in 6 months, both times I was picking up family from the airport with a pile of luggage. It was very convenient, but the adult passengers in the back would not have enjoyed a long trip - the toddler in the carseat was not bothered.
If I had a chance to wind back the clock, I would've bought a shorter pushchair (when collapsed) so it fits lengthwise in the boot, rather than sideways. It just leaves a heap more space for nappy bags, groceries, scooters etc (My Mountain Buggy, lengthwise, just sits about 4cm too far to close the boot without moving the seat). I'd factored an extra $600 in my new car budget to buy a smaller pushchair - a small price to pay for owning a Tiggy But I haven't felt the need to do so yet.
This was the case for most midsize SUVs in the market when I was trying them on for size. I didn't even test drive a Toureg - too big and cumbersome for my taste and city dwelling lifestyle. The Kodiaq had much better boot space and I suspect I was going to leave the 3rd row seats permanently folded down - it was a very real prospect. Again, I'm way happier with the dimensions and looks of the SWB Tiguan and don't regret my purchase. Perhaps in 3 years I might test drive the LWB Tiguan version of the day, and consider whether I upgrade or not.
Enjoy your new Tiguan when it arrives Nevs!
P.S. I'll be taking a cautious look at owners opinions of the LWB Tiguan when it arrives - Made in Mexico and have read anecdotal comments online that assembly quality is less than desirable. Anecdotal and from North Americans - take it with a grain of salt.
No more searching by “Cargo ID” (ie VIN) as of 24th Jan ‘18.
So I’ve given up and am just trying to be suuuuuuper patient... I’m sure it’s on a ship somewhere, cos that’s what my personalised (I mean generic) “I’m on my way” email says

Thanks. Yes, I've seen that message but was still wondering if there is another way of tracking. Or whether dealers can see the ship/arrival details in their systems.
Thanks for your comments Spacemannz and Rooboy, very much appreciated. We are now feeling more comfortable with the size of the Tiguan. Cannot wait as we should have it mid month now.
I ordered it end of July 2017. Got delivered 31 Jan. Dealer called me when the car arrived at the dealership, he said we have a problem, the car has a sunroof. They said VW made the mistake as the order does not have a sunroof. After some negotiations they finally agreed to give it without any extra charge. I suspect the mix up may have happened when VW was changing from MY18 to MY18.5.
I’ve not heard from anyone who has the same combination of no traction control button but still have the badges.
