I'm doing the same. I don't know how many YouTube videos I've watched and forum threads I've read! I didn't think I'd ever order a car without a test drive either. After driving the 140TDI R-Line I was happy enough though, assuming the 162TSI will perform better (of course, that was still after I had put an order in).

By the way, is your username short for Deutschland? It's what you hear being chanted when the German national team are playing

      • I feel the same... I've driven the 132, not as sprightly as I would have liked but felt the potential if fitted with the 162. I too had already ordered my R Line by this stage... I ordered it purely on looks. Dropped into to my dealer on the weekend to see the TDI R Line and wasn't disappointed in the look department... I didn't drive it... didn't need to. Unfortunately it was the Iridium Grey which I don't feel allows the black trim and chrome to truly BLING, but the thing that impressed me the most was the wheels... firstly how big are they?(rhetorical) they look brilliant!

          • You definitely aren't alone, I have my daily (often multiple times a day) routine of reading this forum as well as the UK and German (well the bad Google Translation at least) forum sites. Pretty certain I know more about these cars than my dealer ever will now.

Judging from the German forum site they have started receiving the 162TSI over there and they are coming with the fake dual trapezoid exhaust with proper exhaust behind each side so slightly better than the BiTDI. Don't imagine they would have a different exhaust setup for over here.

Yeah, I think we'll be getting the same over here. Made me thing about the difference between the 132TSI and the 162TSI. People have mentioned tuning the 132TSI as its essentially the same engine but de-tuned. But, the exhaust on the 162TSI seems to be more comprehensive which can also add to performance.

                • Not sure if this even matters but I found it interesting. The new MQB platform, allows the Tiguan structure to have 25,000nm/degree of twist resistance with the sunroof, and 28,000nm without.

Clearly the sunroof compromises integrity a little 10% on the Tiguan. What would really be interesting is the impact the various MQB layouts have on rigidity. For example the golf hatch v the Tiguan SUV v the A3/Jetta sedan v the A3 cabriolet.

As you say probably doesn't make any difference but interesting.

                    • Hi all,

I am very close to placing my order for a 162TSI with DAP. I would have liked a proper "full size" spare but I am being told that it can only come with a space-saver tyre.

I have seen that the Tiguan has 2 floor levels in the back luggage area and if you set floor to the upper level you can gain an additional 50 mm or more that can be used for a wider rimmed spare wheel.

As I have had an experience driving over 600 Km on a space saver after getting a flat in a previous car, (I never want to do that again.) I am sure it is possible to find a rim with the right wheel nut spacing and off-set and then put a higher aspect ratio tyre to match the overall diameter of the standard 18" rim with its lower profile tyre.

                      Does anyone have any suggestions?

                      Many thanks,
                      David

                      • I wish to place an order for a Tiguan 162 TSI highline in Tungsten Silver with DAP. I live in Sydney and am prepared to travel to pick up the car if needed.

I am not eligible for Corporate discount. I will be buying this car on a 5 yr fully maintained novated lease.

Realistically, what is the current best drive away price (no more to pay) and what is the name and contact details of the Broker that can get this good price for me.

                        Thank you in advance,
                        David

I saved $4k on a 162TSI R-Line, DAP, Sunroof. I was entitled to a corporate discount even though I didn't lease it, it's just that the company I worked for qualified (even though they don't actually have any agreement in place with VW). Prior to them factoring in the corporate discount, I think it was still in the vicinity of about $2-3k savings. Note that this was 2 months back when dealers were really reluctant to discount, so you may be able to do better now.

$58,900. At the time, the dealers weren't budging on the $63k RRP so I was happy with that. If you minus the R-Line pack and sunroof, you're looking at $52,900, so the $52k quoted in the whirlpool forum is pretty good. I would still recommend Chris, he was very helpful and very quick to respond. I emailed him on a Sunday night and by Monday afternoon I had ordered a car
