I have ordered/received my New Tiguan

What is the relationship like with your dealer? Is it possible to just (nicely) ask him why he has been told all 162's have been delayed when you know that there are some being delivered in Feb? This is my first VW but what I plan to do with my dealer regarding the towbar on the R-Line.

Mine is a 162 R-Line White with DAP and Sunroof, supposedly the combination that will take the longest, and I ordered it back in September as well so I can't see why yours is any different to mine and what the delay could be. Hopefully it isn't anything suspicious or dodgy from the dealer/VW.

Keen to keep hearing how you go!

I get an update from them each month - I suppose they are a smaller dealer and I have corporate discount - suppose I'm not a priority?

Pretty sure that should not have anything to do with it. A car should have been allocated soon as ordering was possible.

Not sure how the build slot allocation works but I doubt Dealer X get all their cars before Dealer Y. My initial thought is that you may have put the order in before the system was available and then the dealer forgot to put it in when the 162 order book opened and therefore you got pushed down the line.

I would like to think that this isn't the case and it is something logical and reasonable.

I got mine through Maxxia, my experience with them previously hasn't made me think they would apply extra pressure to get the car to me sooner though.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it though.

I ordered the car in July and the dealer told me that the 162s weren't able to be ordered on VW's system till September - they entered it into the system the day it opened up. I was told then it would be Jan, then it moved to March, then may and now early April.

Hopefully my dealer placed the order that day. From the nadcon print out I received, the order was placed on 16th September.

I'm waiting for a call back from VWA, hopefully with some clarity...at this stage I've been told end of March by my dealer and now VWA are saying sometime in May.

My dealer told me that it's still on track for late Feb/early March. Looking at the timing, this sounds relatively accurate. They told me it was handed over to Production on 24th December, so looks like it will be finished late January, and on a ship arriving late February and then ready for delivery early March. Until I get the VIN though and am able to track it, I'll never be sure.

Same update from my dealer re timing on production and then delivery. I have a Highline w R-Line, DAP and sunroof on order.

Agree though, really want to get the VIN to be able to track it!

It will be a product planniing forecasting issue probably in Grrmany. I used to do product forecasting for a high value consumer product that had a 9 month lead time. If I got the forecast a couple of % out I either finished up with stock we didn't need or back orders.

my guess is that the forecast for highline/rline packs was too low in general and perhaps specifically an item within that pack was mis forecast the sunroof looks a likely candidate but could be a bumper or progressive steering set. And if you are out in your forecasts on the volume in VW terms it could mean 1,000's of units. Suppliers need lead times etc to ramp up production and remember we were a later market to introduce the 162 and Rline packs are available on lesser models elsewhere. We are simply playing catch up.

agree dealer allocations may also play a small part in this and be the cause of some individual delays/long lead times but systemically the longer than normal lead times being quoted here are the result of a product planning issue.

so no conspiracy and likely not even incompetence by VW. How many people here opted to go for the Rline once we saw it and saw the price compared to the standard highline or thought about a highline 140 until they drove it? A good number I think and that many times over as skewed the component set forecasts resulting demand outstripping supply.

Thanks for that response. Well just have a look at Toyota and the HiLux - they never forecast that it would be the best selling car in Australia and everyone would pick the top of the range with the leather option - they now have to heavily discount the cloth trim as no one would buy it.

Would be surprised if the 140TDI has been over forecast. I was definitely considering it until I drove one. I'm sure there are many others who opted for the 162TSI instead.

I just noticed this Tiguan for sale on carsales... concerned how VW quality checks have not picked up how out of alignment the R-line badge on the door is! Surely the dealer would have noticed this also.

That's pretty poor. That's the kind of thing to look out for when you take delivery of a vehicle.

I was going to get black, but it wasn't so glossy, so went indium grey.
