Be interested to see pics as well please. The idea of bumper plugs is starting to go cold on me, tossing up between full sized Euro plates or a Lakin mount with the VIC slimline plates like in post #265 - http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ighlight=lakin

Know there will still be exposed mount on both sides on the front of the Tig, but the gloss black metal surely looks better than the standard plastic monstrosity which the slimline plates get lost in...

    • Unfortunately my old brackets don't fit the new model, so I have just ordered new ones. It may not be for a couple of weeks, but I can post photo's before and after once they arrive.

Yes, they are a bit pricey, but personally I believe the cost is worth it. I consider the factory/dealer setup currently on my car as ugly compared to the custom brackets I had on my old Tig. After all, I've just spent $56K+ on a new great looking vehicle, I'm not spoiling it with cheap and tacky looking plate brackets and covers.

This clip I found on YouTube gives you a good idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=142Yy9AgQp4

That's why I just go for full size both ends to avoid all that. IMHO the car is designed for Euro sized plates, so anything else doesn't look quite right. You could still use the ugly plastic bracket but I replace it with the slim Lakin bracket which you can barely see behind the cover.

It's funny how subjective these things are. I have the NSW slim euro plate at the front and I really like the look of it. One of my colleagues even commented the other day that he really likes the big black number plate section at the front of with the small plate on it. Each to their own I guess.

I don't even have plate holders for mine. I transferred my plates from my Jetta and I had full intention of buying some plate holders but I looked at it later and thought it looked decent enough. To be honest, I found it hard to find a set of plate holders for the NSW euro plates with the slim and full sized plate.

          • Heya Guys,

So I ordered my Silver R-Line about a month and a half ago.

Received a phone call from the dealer today that it will definitely be a MY18 build car and that there will be extra cost to it now casue of the extra software features on it like cruise control stop and go due to traffic and extra lane assist as well as the increase to the stamp duty from 3.2% to 4.2%. I told him that if there will be any extra costs to the car that I might have to rethink my decision on the purchase as my budget is my budget and I really don't want to be paying any extra on it.

He couldn't tell me what the cost would be as yet as he doesn't have that information.

I really don't want to cancel the car but I also do not want to pay any more than I've already agreed to. I guess time will tell.

Any other my18 orders out there receive the same phone call for any new price modifications ?

The price should be the same, if anything maybe $100 difference.

              • I haven't had that call yet and I have a MY18 also on order. I kind of expected that the stamp duty increase would increase the cost but wasn't aware that the car price was going to go up also...

                • I have a signed contract with a price and the fact that VW are so late in delivering what should have been an MY 17 car, but will now more than likely be an MY 18, then they can whistle for any extra $$. My dealer has already tried the "your trade in will be worth less by the time your new car arrives". And how is that my problem, go work it out with VW.

                  • I'm fairly sure that if you have a signed contract then the price is set. If they don't deliver a MY17 in time and the MY18 is more then that's the dealer's problem.

Re trade-ins, the price will be finalised at the time you pay for the new car, and hence that's why dealers use them as a way to screw the buyer!

                    • Yes my contract is also signed and the deposit has been paid.
At time of purchase it was still a my17 but now has been confirmed that it will be a my18 due to how long it takes them to order/build/deliver.
Just a shame that now there is extra cost cause of new stamp duty% and new features which are on my18 that I'm supposed to be paying for. Kind of leaving bad taste in my mouth.
Anyway. I will evaluate what the extra cost is when they finalise it and I'll see then if I'll continue with purchase or not.

I'm still calling BS by the dealer, what exactly is he saying costs more?

I've read elsewhere that the extra features that the MY18 DAP is getting are purely coding updates, as the Skoda Superb that has identical kit (e.g. electronic handbrake etc) already has them, plus I thought others have have been able to enable them in MY17s.

                        • Thinking about it further, I would tell them they need match the agreed price or you will take it up with VWA. What have you got to lose?

                          • Ladies and gents, just got the email from the dealer indicating the ship has sailed from Bremerhaven and car is ironically on the aptly named vessel 'the Tiger'. For those awaiting confirmation of shipping I gather it's likely were all together. Check with your dealers.

Good work, that will land mid June yeah?

Had been speaking with the dealer earlier today and sadly mine hasn't shipped yet ah well a couple of ships leaving over the next few days so won't be long. They're getting me the VIN at least so I can start checking myself.
