Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I really don't know much about this stuff.
The 162TSI is the same engine that is in the current GTI and I believe they are easily getting at least 220kw with a Stage 1 tune which is the same as a standard MK7 Golf R but with more torque. The Tiguan has 4Motion and the stronger DQ500 DSG gearbox so it is likely they will be able to get more power for the Tiguan tune.

I believe the 132TSI is exactly the same engine they have just used software to de-tune the engine. A Stage 1 tune would take you to the same as a 162TSI Stage 1 tune, only difference is you would notice a much bigger change. Not sure what gearbox the 132TSI is running, if it is the DQ500 or the weaker DQ250.

      • May I ask where you heard it was the same engine as the gti? From the reviews I have read and what I have heard from my brother in law and other dealers is that its the same power output as the golf but a similar engine

Everything I have read said that it is the same engine:
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Australian specs confirmed, 162TSI range-topper | PerformanceDrive
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan pricing and specifications

I also emailed AutoInstruct asking about the Burger Motorsport JB1 if it would work with the Tiguan and they confirmed that since it was the same engine as the Golf GTI that it would work.

Since the specs of the engine are the same (162KW with same quoted 0-100 time) and since they like to share components between the ranges I wouldn't think they would have a different engine just for the Tiguan. Also the Tiguan is based on the same MQB platform as the Golf 7 so make sense they would share engines.

          • I have spoken with a couple of workshops that work on vws and they have told me that the engine is similar, I have also read a few review that say its the same power output as the golf gti which would imply that its not the same, otherwise they would say the same wouldn't they?

I will have a look and find where it said.... also a salesman I was speaking to when I was ordering my tig said it was similar as well.... weird, who knows who is right lol

My dealer told me it was the same but I don't always trust what a dealer say

According to this article VW says the engine is straight from the GTI: https://www.motoringresearch.com/car...-engine-tiguan

It is hard to find definative details as I seems that not many places get the 162TSI, the UK doesn't get it and can't see any details of this engine of the German website either.

              • All I can find is stuff saying it is the same engine. The people I heard it from must be mistaken

I'd say you and your dealer are right as it does make a lot more sense.

                  • Seriously, to NZ_GolfR's point, why would Volkswagen make two different 162TSI engines? It was the same years ago when I bought my 2006 Jetta, it had the exact same engine as the GTI at the time (147FSI). Everything I have read so far says that it shares the same engine as the GTI.

I have heard in 2018 we will see a Wolfsburg Limited Edition Tiguan in Australia. Whether this has a different engine/tune to what is in the current line-up I don't know.

I was also told the Wolfsburg Limited Edition Tiguan will see the reintroduction of Dynaudio to the Aussie market. Option or standard, I don't know. But that came from someone who attended the Tiguan training recently.

Where you told of any other changes on the horizon?

No sorry. I was hassling my dealer about the lack of Dynaudio and when he spoke to the VW bosses about it at the Tiguan training they said it (Dynaudio) is planned to be reintroduced with a Wolfsburg edition Tiguan in 2 years time.

Well when we get to see Vin's for the 162 we will probably find out whether they are identical or just similar. We know from other applications of various engines in MQB form that they aren't identical in the strictest sense of the word.

The Wolfsburg editions are kinda over priced and boring. It's always cosmetic.
