Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Knew a bloke in 1966 who bolted 5 chrome exhaust tips under the bumper of his Rambler Classic.. He surely had one up on the cowboys with twin exhausts! Wondered why the boys weren't terribly impressed. Fake outlets on the Tiggy are nearly as bad.

Not all dealers will do this but if you don't ask, you don't get.
Indeed it is... I for one have enjoyed having the car for most of the night. Took her out for a drive to get some dinner and I must say I was impressed. It almost feels just like a Golf on stilts. The 132Kw is noticeable and it isn't sluggish for the most part. Sports mode is where you can feel the torque and it's pretty well balanced throughout the rev range. The 162Kw would be a great +30 Kilowatts IMO. In all honestly though you'd have to get the R line as the car does look a tad dull and boring in person and it is definitely not a head turner. As for features and DAP well I think I'm going to need more then a few hours to work it all out. There is so much stuff on this car that it makes me think will I ever use it?
I tried the parking assist and only got it to work once. Couldn't even tell if the adaptive cruise control was on or not and driving sensors are something totally new to me and just gave me a head ache. In time I guess I'll get used to it.

As for sunroof, this is a must but the down fall is and I've mentioned this before, you don't get the up top compartments anywhere else and that's a real bummer. There's seems to be plenty of room it's just not considered.

As it was night time when I got the car. I didn't take any photos. I might take some interior shots tomorrow. All and all it's a pretty good SUV and I would definitely take another look at the R Line next year. I'd hang out for that model.

        • Anyone know if the new R Line has the same steering wheel as the Golf R or is it one of those ugly R Line types, and whats progressive steering...?

              • Looking at the interior photo number 76 from www.caradvice.com.au review (2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Review - Photos | CarAdvice) it looks like it is the same. Pretty sure that is Sydney on the GPS screen so is an actual photo and not just one from overseas.

Progressive Steering provides a dynamic steering feel so that when you are parking for example, the steering is very light making the car easy to manoeuvre, but as you increase speed the steering becomes tighter. Also, is sports mode, the steering becomes more direct, akin to that of a sports car.

Yeah you're right it is Sydney so maybe we do get that steering wheel, I hope so. I heard there isn't any R Lines in Sydney yet so that must be strictly for reviews etc?

Yes will be interesting to see the 7 seat version and also compare to the Skoda Kodiaq.

I've been wondering this myself. I drove the previous generation Tiguan R-Line about 6 months ago and that seemed to have a sportier exhaust sound, not offensive, just a little deeper and more present. I hope the new ones have the same. You'd think so, but I haven't seen any reference to it anywhere.
