  • Faulty windscreen wipers

Hi folks, I’m having problems with the windshield wipers on my 2023 Tiguan 147tdi, which has only done 15k so it’s still under warranty. They come on intermittently on clear sunny days on a regular basis when driving. I make sure the windscreen is clean so it’s not as a result of dirt, etc. I have disabled the auto rain sensing on the infotainment system and have turned off the auto wipers on the steering wheel stalk but they still come on when it is not raining. It is annoying and distracting to the point of being dangerous. At one point, I removed the fuse to stop it from occurring while I was driving. I don’t want to waste my time going backwards and forwards to a dealer only to be told they can’t find a problem. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, is there a fix.

I also have a 2023 147TDI and have found the stalk can be quite sensitive if knocked downwards ever so slightly, that initiates a single sweep of the of the wiper blades.

I've learnt to hold the steering wheel differently and keep errant fingers away from the stalk and that stopped my issue.

    Otherwise I have no problems.

Best to get if checked if it's initiating on it's own.

    Happy motoring!

Thanks BeigeJet. I have a video of it. My hands are well clear of the stalk. I’ve looked at some o/s forum sites and there are a lot of similar issues reported. Some had windscreen sensors replaced, but that didn’t fix it. Others said there was fault in the wiper stalk which sorted it out. It hasn’t been checked yet but I’ve lodged a complaint with VW Australia. I just want to make sure I have as much information as possible before it’s looked at.

I’ve had the wipers checked by a VW technician. They found a fault in the multifunctional switch in the wiper stalk, which will be repaired under warranty. Unfortunately, it will take them 2 weeks to lodge the warranty claim and fix it. That’s a real inconvenience for me but that doesn’t seem to bother the dealer too much. I hope that is the end of the problem.

The 2 week delay may only be a part availability issue but at least it has been acknowledged as a fault.

Let's hope it is only the 2 weeks for for you.

Part availability I can accept, but when I asked why it was going to take so long, the response was that they have a large backlog of warranty claims and a new person was dealing with them*♂️
