Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Boot closing issue

    Hey Guys,

2019 tig with automatic closing boot.

Sometimes when the boot closes it closes but then releases so it doesn’t close properly. there is a slight gap so you can see it hasn’t latched but it doesn’t happen all the time

I’ve moved the boot liner checked for anything that causing it. Any thoughts before it goes to VW?

    Thanks
    Chris

I found late model Tigs have load sensitive motors. If there is resistance it will reopen about 10cm. 2017 Tiguan used to have pressure pads on the left and right side of the latch in case there was obstruction. My 2019 model doesnt have those.

so back to your question. If the hatch meets obstruction it will reverse closing and open a short distance after meeting resistance. You may also have an issue with the latch not closing hence the hatch reopens. You should hear the latch attempting to close. What happens if you gently help the hatch to close?

The boot closes I hear it trying to latch, then it opens slightly. If I press the boot it closes no issue

Check your boot floor has not moved back and stopping door from closing.

Take it out and see if it makes a difference
