Has pricing been announced here in AUS?
We haven’t even got the updated Tiguan released here let alone the R.

    Don’t expect anything until 2021.

Power output wise it looks similar to what you'd get with a stage 1 tune on a 162 - but guess the AWD changes and maybe other stuff contribute to a 0-100 time a tuned 162 would struggle to match.

I love my MY20 162 Highline and REALLY tempted to tune it but just can't bring myself to kiss the drivetrain warranty goodbye. I'll certainly be considering trading up to this when it comes here.

Only main concern from what I've seen is fabric seats. I'd really prefer leather (like it better, plus kids...). Haven't seen anything to suggest it would be an option but hope so.

I'm surprised it has a crackle given this is effectively wiped out by the Euro Greeny/Lefty changes introduced - refer new A45S, update RS3 et al.

Definitely adds a bit of fun and character to what is otherwise a fairly clinical car..

As for performance, there's the buyer who wants it from the factory, or there are those that are happy to take a cheaper route and mod and take the risk. Historically I've probably sat on both sides of the fence but I'd be happy to spend the extra on the R within reason.

I wonder if the Haldex/AWD improvements are software or hardware.

It’s a new system that can independently drive each wheel.

Haldex only sends drive to the rears not to individual sides which the new torque vectoring system does.

We tend to get leather as standard for R models in Australia. I can imagine them doing something similar to what they have with the golf - leather standard for the R, but then release something like the Grid Edition which is a bit cheaper (no leather, no electronic seat adjustment, digital dash etc.).

I’ve been driving around the Tiguan R for over a year now .

I really don’t know what my next car will be. I love the VWs. Then I’m like maybe an older M3. But as we save for a house I’m like do I just get 10 yr old Camry )))

                  Different R surely?
There is the R line pack which is the cosmetic stuff and some steering/suspension modes.

This new model is a different engine (tune or hardware) though.

I think he's inferring that he has modded his Tiguan so that it is effectively an R.

Excited to see this car announced for Oz.

Have been given clearance by the wife to add this to the Golf R Wolfsburg we already have.

What’s the realistic timeframe for availability?

Well given it's only available in the Facelift which isn't due here until middle of next year it'll be likely some time after that. I suspect they'll add it to the lineup after the initial facelift launch as they will want to space out the new models to keep the line-up "fresh". So my guess is late 2021 to early 2022 if we get it.

Appreciate your speedy reply. That’s still a fair way off really...

Needed a car in the next 6 months, but working from home for a while longer, maybe I can last til then.

“Tiguan R won’t arrive until 2022” not sure there is a reliable source for this though.

Well I spoke to one of my "local" dealers and they confirmed that Tiguan R will be arriving here in early 2022. There was a VW Australia update that was delivered to the dealer network and that was one of the announcements.
