I'm surprised it has a crackle given this is effectively wiped out by the Euro Greeny/Lefty changes introduced - refer new A45S, update RS3 et al.
Definitely adds a bit of fun and character to what is otherwise a fairly clinical car..
As for performance, there's the buyer who wants it from the factory, or there are those that are happy to take a cheaper route and mod and take the risk. Historically I've probably sat on both sides of the fence but I'd be happy to spend the extra on the R within reason.

Power output wise it looks similar to what you'd get with a stage 1 tune on a 162 - but guess the AWD changes and maybe other stuff contribute to a 0-100 time a tuned 162 would struggle to match.
I love my MY20 162 Highline and REALLY tempted to tune it but just can't bring myself to kiss the drivetrain warranty goodbye. I'll certainly be considering trading up to this when it comes here.
Only main concern from what I've seen is fabric seats. I'd really prefer leather (like it better, plus kids...). Haven't seen anything to suggest it would be an option but hope so.

We haven’t even got the updated Tiguan released here let alone the R.Originally posted by ACID View PostThe sooner this fad of crackles and pops for 4cyl cars is over, the better. Just sounds cheap in my opinion.
Has pricing been announced here in AUS?
Don’t expect anything until 2021.

Why would an 8/10/12 cylinder pop, but not a 4 cyl? Any fuel/spark powered engine can pop- cylinder quantity doesnt have an influence.

I'm actually surprised at how obnoxious they've made the over-run pops on a stock car.
Guessing this is in Sport/Race mode and this can be toned down by selecting a different drive mode.

I read that they ditched Haldex for a torque vectoring diff with twin clutches suggesting a twinster diff like the Focus RS.

Yes torque vectoring and able to run 100% power to the rear wheels whereas with Haldex you’re limited to 50/50.

I was reading that the Tiguan R will have an all-new Haldex setup which is able to control power to each wheel independently (rather than just controlling power between front and rear).
