sorry for reviving an old thread... now that we have got our new 2022 Tig R-Line I am looking to get it tuned to Stage 1 for now.
The workshop that looked after our old Golf GTi we had does both APR and RacingLine tunes, during a (very) brief chat with him recently he said just go RacingLine instead because it gives free tune upgrades if we ever go Stage 2 etc.
My only concern is that I don't see many (if any... especially in Oz) Tiguans running RacingLine tunes - is there anyone out there with experience of RacingLine tunes (either your own car, or a mates... something) on a Tiguan and whether they are any good (also safe)?
Few questions for those who have recently tuned. I have a MY19 Allspace.
1) ECU & TCU tune - any recommendations of shops people have used recently? Based in Sydney.
2) I'm also looking at doing hardware upgrades. Starting with the intake and DV. Anything else worth doing?
3) Regarding intakes, open vs closed? I've read open could be affected by Aussie temps. Any truth to this? Looking at IE for open or R600 for closed.
Have just had a stage 1 today on my 140km T-Roc. I've previously done inlet elbow and turbo muffler delete (just for flow maximisation).
I have an open airbox on order (APR pex - coz they are cost effective and I'm not interested in under-bonnet carbon porn) - but I live in Tassie...so bear that in mind. There are "Aussie temps" and there are "Aussie temps" if you get my meaning. Some places are hot and humid, others are cool and humid, some hot and dry, others.... Am sure you follow.
Being not on a race track or regular track days, it is my belief that for normal road use (which is realistically, occasional squirts of full throttle) and little more, open intakes are perfectly fine. A cold air intake might result in measurable (on a dyno) performance differences on hot days, but from the seat of the pants, I believe one is unlikely to feel any difference.
Open intakes also produce nice sounds
My main beef with the Racingline R600 is their filter - foam can be really hard to clean properly, and takes ages to dry. Unless you wanted your car off the road for at least a day when you clean your filter, you will need a second one available. You also need to be really careful which cleaners you use - foam can be robust, but if you use the wrong cleaner, it'll break down quickly and messily.
Just my two-bob's worth - hope it helps.
Edit: when i talk about the R600, my comments relate to foam - because foam is the only filter they offer which is MAF-compatible (the 140kw T-Roc engine uses a MAF). Choosing a cotton pleated filter (if it's compatible with your inlet pipe) nullifies my concerns in that regard.
I'm in western sydney, very hot and humid in the summers. But to your point, it's only suburban driving with the occasional burst. Plus the sound aspect is a plus.
Didn't think of the turbo muffler delete, will add that to the list.
The turbo muffler delete does bugger-all realistically. I just did it because I knew I would have to remove the pipework to get to the inlet elbow and since it's right next door, would save going back in again later
Whilst I'm not a Tiguan owner... my 2c for what it's worth on the tweaks and tuning front for the EA888:
ECU and TCU tune - absolutely worthwhile and the best bang for buck.
Throttle controller - well worth considering to improve throttle pedal feel, even on a tuned ECU/TCU car, especially from a dead stop. The HikeIT X5 and X9 are great value on special. In fact, a throttle controller really should be top of the list on the bang for buck front - they are transformative IMHO.
Turbo muffler delete - an excellent wallet-emptier - a solution to a problem that doesn't exist
Aftermarket intakes - low bang for buck ratio vs modding the factory airbox and intake for similar flow improvements, but most aftermarket intakes (and especially open items) sound nicer. One point to note - all of the aftermarket air filters are a trade-off between flow vs filtration. Pick your preference here. I personally am willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of flow potential on a Stage 1 Passat R-line versus less effective air filtering, but each to their own.
Turbo inlet - minor improvement in throttle response, but also a bit of expectation bias at play methinks. The human brain is a powerful tool/weapon
You cant go wrong with any of them really. Find one that is close to where you live or work so that its minimal inconvenience to have the work done.
Excellent advice IMO. What’s the best tune? Who’s your best local tuner? Spending money in our own communities is always my preference, supporting local businesses who employ local people. If your best local VW tuner only does custom tunes - then custom it is! If they only install off the shelf tunes from brand X, then that’s the one to go for Why? Because that shop will be the one there to support you if or when you have questions down the track, or want to install more bits, or….
Which tune did you get? did you get a before and after dyno run? how does it feel to drive?
I’m currently on APR stage 1. Waiting for parts to install intake, then going to do the DSG tune as well. Other things on the radar to personalise the little roller skate.
Honestly has transformed the car from good to really really good. Responsiveness is sooooo much better.
Im not a dyno kinda person.
Is now comfortably running <6 for the 0-100. Plenty quick enough for what I want.

Awesome. yeah I'm the same, not after an animal. I'm just not sure whether to get a stage 1 and be happy or get a catted DP and stage 2.
Already have an intake elbow and modified stock airbox. I know the tig weighs a bit more than the t-roc but those 0-100 numbers would suggest you're pushing close to 180kw at the flywheel.
