Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Me, just at the local VW though, std logbook service as far as I know, forced a pressure test though as the coolant had dipped to low twice, turned out needed a new thermostat housing seal, also the air con was stinking so needed the new filter change. Got my 45,000 in 2 weeks though now I think about it

Have plenty of options for places to go besides VW.

Besides minor service and brake pad check anyone had any other issues?

Underground Performance do servicing now - might be worth booking in with them if they are located close by.

Its a good point, now that the service requirements are not contained in the "Service Books" where can you find the items required for each service - when you don't want VW to do it?

I've had my 30k service at the local VW dealer which they replaced the thermostat housing and the whole transmission along with the normal log book service! It wasn't a big issue for me as it's just a novated car but I had this transmission slipping noise when changing from reverse to D for the first five mins while it's cold.

I know, ey? Apparently gear slipping is a known issue and there is a service bulletin for it. But after they applied the bulletin's fix, they said the car didn't pass some tests and sought approval from VW Australia to replace the transmission. The whole process took close to two months but they provided a hire car during the repair.

Any idea what the transmission is worth new?

A friend with an older GL63 AMG had to get the transmission changed under warranty which was 70k new...
