Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Error showing on screen - Tiguan MK2

Hopefully someone can assist. Im going to back to VW for a service in a few weeks so maybe they can assist then, but hoping to get some assistance in the meantime.

I got my car back from panel beater, looking quite nice i might add, but now the car has a light showing on the dash "EPC" and in the messaged box when you start up, the same one that says a service is due etc.. there is an error/warning for stop start function and the stop start function doesnt work.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Take it back to the panel beater and inform the insurance company as it won't be a warranty repair and as usual a panel beater has tried to be shonky and not send the vehicle to be fixed by the dealer after what sounds like front end damage. This is becoming a very common issue with the smash guys as they are used to bodging electrical systems on older cars and do not like having to get them fixed properly because it is stuff nott allowed for in the quote to repair.

So spoke with the panel beater who nice. He just said he had to disconnect the battery and a bunch of error codes came up. He got most removed by his electrical guy but VW might have to fix this up.

If I had a bluefin could I delete error code?

My experience with panel shops is get it to a dealer and have a full inspection on the repairs. They love cutting wires and joining them with insulation tape and that simply does not work on modern cars.

Ok so turns out the R line steering wheel I installed could be the issue? It's from a MK7 Golf R. Any ideas what I can do to get my ACC working again?

We've discovered that in the MY19 models they've got a button on the steering wheel to turn off ESC, whereas on older models, it's a button for the phone.

This got me thinking that maybe in swapping over the wheels, the wired inputs required are different between the stock wheel and the MK7 R you've retrofitted, resulting in this issue? Some of the wires have gone to the wrong place?

Swap it back and see if the problem goes away?

                        Ok so this is solved.

I called the dealership who were ****ing useless. They told me I had to get rid of the wheel and it's impossible for it to work. I don't mind if that was true, but it wasn't. So if you dont know you need to say as such, not act like an authority on the matter when clearly you're not.

                        Anyway I digress.

Found a gentleman, who truthfully, molested me on the coding charges but he got the job done.

I did my own research and found that as long as the wheel you are getting matches the button layout of the wheel you have, then you may not even need to code it.

In my case, the steering wheel had a CNL button where the picture of car with the radar signals coming out of is.

The guy just changed over this button and coded to suit. Now ACC and everything else that freaked out, now works perfectly.
