Beware-Very Good Distance to Empty - New Wolfy TLDR: 62.9 fillup on 60 litre tank

So, as the story goes, I have traded up from a 2005 VZ V8 Berlina, where I was used to having another 100km to drive from first being warned about low fuel or perhaps 30km from when the distance to empty started showing zero kilometres left to drive.

Well well well, having a full tank of petrol from the dealer, yesterday was my first ever petrol fill and I have seen the 5km range left and then drove around a little bit on zero range.

ONLY TO FILLUP WITH 62.9 LITRES of 98 Octane ... where the Tiguans have a 60 litre tank.

Note to self..... believe the wolfy distance to empty function.... believe......

That’s good advice and nice to see an accurate calibration on these cars. The extra would be filler neck space (I assume) or a dodgy fuel pump. This isn’t as uncommon as we’d like to believe

Could be worse - my wife's parents are Ford lovers and in the time i have known them, they have had a total of something like 7 or 8 Falcons and Territories. One of the BA Falcons in particular was extremely inaccurate with regards to the fuel gauge, and when it said you had around 80km to empty the engine would conk out.

You would think that running out of fuel once in this scenario would be enough to convince you to keep the car above 1/4 tank at all times, but they found themselves out of fuel several times in that car.

Yeah did think of that Simon and will keep an eye out for next time - but the pump was at a very busy Woolworths Petrol station at Blunder Road, Oxley in Brisbane.

I’ve put once 23.5L diesel into 20L jerrycan. I’ve reported service station to the weights and measures, they called back 6weeks later that they just checked that service station and there was nothing wrong with the pumps there

most 20L jerries will take close to 24L. Because 20L is their usable volume, not their total volume.

Yeah....I believe that those of us with common sense, would fill to the line that indicates 20L.

It's been a bit of time since my first post on believing the fuel gauge in my wolfie - today filled up at Noosa after coasting in on fumes ... 825km on the trip indicator and filled with 64.2 litres of premium unleaded.... oops... must not do this one again .... 162Kw 2.0l petrol tiggy..... on another matter .. I have been seeing 6.3litres per 100km on the highway with quite a few runs between Brissie and Noosa recently, with almost 12k on the clock now and almost one year of ownership ... still loving my purchase

That’s great mileage
Most I have done was a touch over 700kms on a tank -Grafton to Sydney.
Car was loaded with wife, kids, dog and roof pod.

As for for filling up, I’m pretty sure I cracked 62L once.
Not keen to go that close again any time soon

Seeing people get the same fuel economy as me (140tdi) in 162tsi’s makes me sad. I bought the diesel for the fuel savings

My highway usage is around the 6.* mark too. At 110kmh.

No need to be sad. Your TDI get much better fuel consumption in the city, in combined cycle and you pay much less price per litre of fuel.

Also I doubt that the TSI would use 6.2L/100km at 110km/h, maybe down hill with the help of the wind.

Plus, in the TDI even led footed ones get always reasonable fuel consumption.

My 162tsi averaged 9.2l/100km long term with best hwy consumption around 6.9l.

I found that the sweet speed spot for econimical consumption is around 80-90km/h?

It sounds about right to me.

It’s very hard to get bad fuel consumption from the TDI, you can drive very short trip or enjoy very spirited driving and the fuel consumption will be in the worst case only 1L up. Providing that you stick to 110km limit on highways.
