Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Discover Media Infotainment Media Issues

I have been having issues with the Discover Media Infotainment System playing MP3s from SD Cards or USB Drives in my Tiguan Adventure for some time now. My dealer has been made aware of the issues but as expected, they have pretty much fobbed me off by blaming my media.
I have searched these forums and I could not find anyone else reporting any issues such as these.
Am I the only one playing music from an SD Card?

On average about 3 to 4 times a week whenever I start the car the Discover Media has problems with my audio files and some menu options are no longer available. I have tried 3 different USB drives and 2 SD Cards containing about 900 .MP3s in 28 folders formatted using NTFS, but the same issue persists.

Rather than trying to explain the issues, I have made the following recordings.

This link shows the Discover Media System operating as it should and the settings I am using when I play my media files.

The following links highlights the issues I am having.

If anyone else has had similar issues, or any other suggestions, I would love to hear about it.

    Cheers, Paul

This issue certainly looks frustrating but using SD cards MUST be frustrating in itself!
I reckon you might be the only person using removable media......?

Grab an Apple Music or Google Music subscription or use streaming radio through your phone with Spotify or iHeart. Most telcos don’t charge excess data for these services either. It’s also pretty cool when you use voice controls to request a track, album or playlist. You’ll never look back.

Unfortunately I don't have voice control. I queried the dealer some time ago and they wanted some serious coin to activate it 😣 and it can't be done with an OBD2 either.

I have the Discover Pro and have been using an 64Gb SD card and have had no problems yet.

Try a faster SD card - something rated for 4K video or better (90 mb/s)?

What format is the card? XFAT, FAT32 or something else?

You could try exFAT and see how that goes? 80 MB/s card is standard speed. It could also be anything like the music file format, bit rate etc

I've just reformatted my SD Card to exFat and copied my mp3 files to it. Will see how that goes.
As for bit rates I try to get files that are 320 Kbps whenever I can but some are less.

Unfortunately not everyone has constant cell phone coverage or even cell phones because of lack of coverage. I can drive 10km from my home and no cell phone at all. I use FLAC files on a USB and no issues at all, if it is a PRO unit try copying to the Jukebox internal storage and see what happens.

Unfortunately not a Discovery Pro unit.

So last night I reformatted my SD Card using the exFat file system and copied my music to it.
This morning when I started the car the same problem returned.
I will look at getting a faster SD Card and see how that goes.

                            I see your problem.

It's Neil Diamond. That's bound to stuff things up.

No in all honestly I was using a microSD card in an sd adaptor and my sd card would freeze, sometimes it wouldn't even read. I changed the adaptor and it's been golden since.

Are you using an adaptor or is it a full Sd card

I should mention mine is formatted in fat32 as none of the single files are over 4gb as it's only music files

                              Just to update.
This issue has been resolved with a firmware update. Has been working flawlessly for the last two weeks.

                              Cheers
