Tiguan IS38 and Big turbo upgrades

Went and saw Gordie at Etuners Motorsport today and booked in for next week. I wanted him to check out the turbo that I bought firsthand, and he asked me a couple of times was I sure that it wasn't "brand new". I took a bit of a punt on getting it from overseas, but it appears to of paid off so far - fingers crossed.

So having a chat to Gordie has clarified a few things in regards to some mods that were possibly on the to do list.
From his perspective, there doesn't seem to be any justification for the Muffler Delete or Air Intake Mod for my build. He doesn't see any improvements on the dyno for these.
He did suggest that I put in the dog bone insert though - however even with this addition, and the way things have worked out, I am still bang on my $5K budget for the project, so I am pretty happy about that.

Turbo inlet adda much needed induction sound. As you are changing the turbo the turbo muffler delete is an easy add if you already bought it

Yep doing the Turbo Inlet, just not the muffler - even though it would be easy to do now.

Nah it just came today. It had been sitting in customs for a few weeks, and the tracking had said that it was still there, and then suddenly it arrived - and after a couple of hours all of the tracking updated. Interestingly I wasn't asked to pay duty or GST yet? Anyway that's another thread I suppose - customs experiences. Anyway I will probably start looking at install dates soon.

If you have it and not been asked to pay you are home free.

IS38 Big Turbo Upgrade Done!!!

My brief to Etuners Motorsport was:
Keep it Quiet (but not too quiet)
Keep it within budget (Total spend of $5,000 including IS38 )
Make it SAFE, and then SAFE again, and then finally KEEP IT SAFE
Then outside of that - go for your life.

The result?
Well when your digital speedo jumps up in increments of 20kph and is struggling to keep up - but then when the car is more than happy to potter around in daily traffic - then you have an amazing SUV.

So I ended up with 228kw, and about 465nm ATW

So we put in:
BMS drop in filter, and removed the snow grate. No other airbox modifications were done.
CTS Turbo Inlet
CTS Downpipe with Hi Flow Cat
IHI IS38 Turbo - New (but had been used) (06K 145 874G)
Stage 3 Engine Tune
Matching DSG Tune

I really like dealing with Gordie. He listened to what I wanted, added his advice, but wasn't over the top in his recommendations. He enjoyed the process just as much as I did I reckon - and was over the moon himself at the end result - a true enthusiast.

Thanks for everyone's input so far to help me make the decision making process easier.

What boost and air fuel ratios you running?

Gordie says that IS38 sweet spot is 25psi. Not sure on air/fuel ratio - didnt ask.

Alot of people are using CTS dowpipes which i feel are too big at 3.5inches. X-Force do a similar one at 3inches. Would this still be recommended? Planning the build myself, just waiting om right time to pounce om a used is38 which i want to swap out myself.

CTS seem to be the only one's who've made a DP to fit the Tiguan.
Technically any DP that fits a Mk7 Golf R should fit the Tiguan but there may be some manipulation required to get the fitment exactly right.

Whats your budget for the IS38? Last time I checked the place that I got mine from had another one for sale. It cost me $1200 delivered.
