    • Happy 1st birthday to this thread!

12 months ago, I nervously took the plunge on an IS38 turbo swap on a Tig...to be one of the first in Aus to give it a go....

12 months later there are 9 turbo swapped Tigs across Aus - 5 is38 Tigs and 4 hybrid is38 Tigs, that have gone on this journey on this forum.

Let’s see people continue to try new things, push the boundaries and take the Tig to the next level. Full engine build big turbo anyone???? Maybe Guy Harding can create the Frankenmumster v2.....600HP would be crazy.

Thanks so much for all of your Trailblazing efforts. I know that I feel a lot less apprehensive doing mine now.

                • No I got this from The Netherlands.

I am going to be doing a build, where the budget is strictly $5,000
So the turbo cost me $1200 landed- being virtually new - however it has been tested prior to sale, but is as clean as a whistle (no soot at all in the exhaust side). The seller had quite a few of them - all the same.
At the moment I am leaning towards taking it to Gordie at Etuners Motorsport in Melb, and he will put a CTS DP, and CTS Inlet pipe on it, then run a Stage 3 and DSG Tune over it all. I have already dropped a BMS air filter into it, and may do the airbox mod.
All in all this should bring it pretty much in on budget. I am not chasing a figure at all, just looking to get the best bang for buck - however by all accounts it will probably end up around the 225awkw - particularly as I am chasing an early spool up as possible - and longevity. That should be heaps enough for me.

                      • Googling mainly - but searching for the part number specifically.
I took the line that I could buy a second hand one with quite a few kays on it for perhaps $800 -1000, or new one was around the $2300 mark - so I tried to find a unit in the middle price wise that was as close to new as possible.

Nice one! All the best with your build. Keep posting back with some updates. Have you locked in an install date?

Nah it just came today. It had been sitting in customs for a few weeks, and the tracking had said that it was still there, and then suddenly it arrived - and after a couple of hours all of the tracking updated. Interestingly I wasn't asked to pay duty or GST yet? Anyway that's another thread I suppose - customs experiences. Anyway I will probably start looking at install dates soon.

                            • Went and saw Gordie at Etuners Motorsport today and booked in for next week. I wanted him to check out the turbo that I bought firsthand, and he asked me a couple of times was I sure that it wasn't "brand new". I took a bit of a punt on getting it from overseas, but it appears to of paid off so far - fingers crossed.
