Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Stupidity? Yeah.. Sometimes I wished I just bought a 335i BMW instead lol.

    Anyhow, went off topic lol
My brother has a 335, those N54 TT engines are so underrated / detuned. Highly recommended for modding with MHD and very cheap to get an overseas tune sent to you for both ECU and TCU. The ZF gearbox is pretty strong also and has a number of special tunes and continuing development you can get for a couple of bills.
VW Tiguan 162 TSI Highline w/ R-Line & DAP. Mods: OEM IS38 turbo, APR IS38 98 RON ECU tune, TVS Stage 2 + with custom TCU tune, APR Downpipe and resonator delete, APR turbo inlet, VWR turbo muffler delete, APR pendulum mount, APR dog bone insert, APR Open Pod Filter (MQB), RAMAIR intake tube, APR Red Ignition Coils, NGK R7437-9 Spark Plugs, DBA T3 slotted rotors front and T2 slotted rotors rear, ATE ceramic pads front and rear Vbox: 0-100 4.1s

Plus less unwanted attention on the road...

But back to Tiguan turbo upgrades. I'm in the process of getting some pricing through my tuner and also separately for a TTE470/475. Just waiting to see who comes back with the best price.

Exciting! There is still time to get it under the tree for Christmas Day.

What supporting mods are you thinking of getting ?

Yes. This is the best option for me locally for custom tuning.

You could take a drive to Melb to see Alex from Underground Performance, I’ve heard many good things and he’s tuned a number of hybrid turbo vws (they recommend Snailturbo). They have a dyno in his shop to do before and after runs and calibration/customisation of the tune. Has RD done any IS38 hybrids? Any charts or data?

I’ve been down the track of driving to Melbourne for tuning in the past and I’m not going down this path again. If there’s ever any issues with the tune or you want it modified in some way it becomes a complete nightmare. You either have to go for another drive or put your car on a truck.

UGP are the local agents for Snailturbo so that is what they use/recommend. I don’t have an issue with the product it’s more the support and regular servicing/maintenance that is the issue.

That’s why I’m going with Haines Mechanical/RD Technik. I can get everything done at the 1 workshop from fitting all parts, tuning and regular servicing and it’s the same mechanic that does all the work.

The other 1 stop shop options locally are APR dealers (limited upgrade options with expensive hardware) or Racingline OEM+ but then again limited packages and the dealer is on the other side of town/near dealership rates for servicing. UGP have just put a dealer here but I wouldn’t take my car there for regular servicing as they’re a “general“ workshop rather than being a VAG specialist. Plus not all have options for DSG tuning (which you have found out).

So when it’s all boiled down there’s only really one place I’d take my car anyway.

I could understand it would be a nightmare if you don’t have local technical capability and support, agree this is critical for any build.

You could get the spanner work done at Haines and then get a custom tune elsewhere, however it’s probably good to do everything at the same place so they are accountable for the outcome.

In terms of servicing, Haines capped price serving for interval servicing looks like a bargain. If they are using liquid moly or motul that’s a good price.

DSG options are very limited and in AU not a lot of specilists, I’ll let you know how I go with TVS.....

Yes Haines use Motul and there's a big plus for doing everything under the one roof as 100% accountability with the workshop. You don't get one workshop blaming the other workshop for poor workmanship and be the guy stuck in the middle.

RD Technik will do a remote dyno session so it will get dyno tuned and they are one of the few people that write DSG files locally to match with your torque/power curve so that gear changes keep you in the power band. Plus can add in crackle maps and DSG farts to customer preference

Sounds good, make sure they enable boost on launch to optimise take off.

I’ve only read good things about this intake. Are you getting the intake elbow and turbo inlet to maximise flow? Also you might need a kit to re route the coolant hose, unless you can live with the hose coming over the top of the box.

OK so 30psi requested boost with launch @ at 4,000rpm??

There's also a bit of a compromise between super fast shift speeds and DSG farts as the faster you shift the less farts you get.

LOL - not sure I’d have it that high....just enough to have the perfect launch..if not you will just be roasting your tyres!

Enable crackle and pops for some added pops and bangs.....unless you have a cat....it might fry it with the fuel over run.

                                Rather have fast shifting...
