Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Is anyone else's R-Line a lemon??

I have a 2017 Tig R-Line and have issues with is since the day I picked it up from the showroom.
Within 2hrs of pickup from the showroom, the back seat release mechanism had broken - first time it was used, the release cable slipped so the handle would no go back flush.

About 6 months later, the Blind Spot Monitoring system failed and kept bringing an error message up on the display to say it was unavailable - back to the workshop - on pickup exactly the same fault happened again - don't think they even tested it - said it just needed a software update?? They kept it another day to fix. Ended up being a short in the wiring in drivers door.

Now 3 months later the same problem has reappeared, plus the drivers seat memory function no longer works!!

There have also been weird computer glitches in the entertainment unit that come right after you turn the car off and restart.

Back to the workshop this Friday - here's hoping.

Anyone else struck similar issues? I have had numerous new cars over the years, but this one is by far the worst for faults. This is my first VW and European - is this just par for the course for VW? Glad it is still under warranty, but a PITA to wait for a loan car to be available while its in the workshop each time.

A blown fuse doesn't really make it a lemon.. i would take it to another VW dealer if you feel things aren't getting fixed.

They all operate the same though,

      1. Plug car in
      2. Identify fault
      3. Follow instructions
      4. Give car back

Hmm - if only they did follow 2 & 3! When you take it in for a specific fault and it gets returned to you with the same fault, after asking before they returned it what was the cause, and being told it just needed a software update??

You are right - need to take it somewhere else, but we are limited here in Auckland - there are only 3 dealerships and I haven't had much luck with 2 of them!

I think ope126 also correct - its all part of the VW Ownership Experience - just not used to it yet, but I guess I'll get to know my Service Manager really well - might even get an invite for Christmas dinner from him by the time the warranty is over.

Apart from the seat mechanism all those faults sounds like they could be related to the body control module (BCM). I'd be demanding they replace that. I've had a faulty one before and it throws up all kinds of gremlins you wouldn't expect.

I had a short due to a loose screw dropping into the front ceiling lights. It did something to the BCM and after fixing the short it still messed with everything from the heated sets to the MFD, windows and external lights.
