What a PIA the VW Tiguan update process is compared to my other SUV where updates are performed annually by the dealership free as part of the service.
1) After unzipping, total file size was 100MB more than would fit on a 32GB USB
Contrary to dumb VW Discover Pro update documentation: "You will need an SD card with a minimum of 32 GB of storage to update your navigation data.Volkswagen recommends the use of a Class 10 SDHC card, which is readily available to buy."
2) Copying main folder would not be recognized by VW. Had to copy the 2 sub-folders and 1 file to root for VW update to recognize
3) Updating with the car turned off, causes the 'low battery' warning, which shut off the power mid-update
4) Turned the engine on and the update appear to continued
VW docs: If the process is interrupted – for example, by parking the vehicle – the copying process automatically continues at the point at which it was interrupted as soon as the ignition is switched on. ...hope so !!
5) Update took over 20 mins
6) At the end of the update, CW update screen said update was interrupted (error) and needs to re-boot.
7) After re-boot, Map Version appears to show the latest @ 0088 2020/2021
As the version shows the latest, don't know if the update went ok or if I have to do it again
... pull your finger out VW and make the updates free annually and include them as 'standard' as part of the service
