Yes, I've downloaded the update and can report that it now comes down clean
Seconded. It installs fine.
I unzipped all the files into the root of a 32GB USB flash drive formatted as EXFAT - no SD card required.
Note if you are using a Mac, the instructions recommend you use Keka to unzip reliably (AU$2.99 from Mac app store), and CleanMyDrive 2 to remove hidden Mac system files that confuse the head unit (Free from Mac app store). I used both to be on the safe side.
Now to find out what was and wasn't updated in the map data
Has anyone come across this: Find a new destination, 155 George St, The Rocks, NSW 2000, Discover Pro finds it no problem, click on it and it wants to take you to Redfern (NSW 2016). WTF?
I am 72 years old, so not particularly tech savvy and I am trying to upgrade the maps on my Mk7 (2014) Golf GTI. Have been reading lots of posts here and elsewhere about downloading the latest update from the German site and I think, against all the odds given my distinct lack of knowledge, I have managed to do this to my PC. The file name seems to be correct at P68_N60S5MIBH3_ROW_NT_v2 (1).7z Now I am reading posts about unzipping files which is a complete mystery to me. So do I somehow have to unzip the file I downloaded before attempting to transfer it to my car's system? If so, how do I do this? Then, if I do manage this, do I just copy the unzipped file from my PC to a 32GB sim card and place it in one of the slots in my GTI's glove box? Thank you for any help and patient understanding.

Yes, you need to unzip the file first. The software to do this (7zip) is available on the page that you downloaded the map file from. I would unzip the downloaded file to my computer first them move the unzipped (expanded) folder to a USB stick or SD card.
Phew. Took a bit of fiddling, but managed to update the maps to the latest 2018-2019 version. (MRM2_2718_1010)
My car came with an SD card in slot 1, which has a map. I took the card, used the Discovery software on my PC to update, but it always failed during the installation.
Then I downloaded the 6.7 GB map file separately, extracted and copied onto the card. Before that, I had to scan and repair the SD card once.
Now it works. Can it be that my Media unit does not have an internal memory? I could not find an option to copy the map data onto the internal memory. My previous Tiguan had a HDD in the head unit.
I'll try and install it tonight and let you know how I go.

I haven't found any newer version of the maps you mentioned. The latest maps were released back in April, still that is showing on the website you linked. I checked the maps for Tiguan and for Discover Media unit. The latest is the MRM2_2718_1010, I am not sure what the P71 means in your post.
Oh I should have clarified that I have the Discovery Pro (2017 Tiguan). The 71 refers to the start of the file name. The one previous to that was Jan 18 which started with 68 (see previous threads) The latest one is what you have mentioned which was an April update, which has only been uploaded to the website recently

I am still unable to install POIs to my Discover Media unit. Can anyone help?
I copied the files to the correctly formatted SD card and plugged in to slot 2. Went to menu - manage memory - install My POIs - Update but I always got the same message:

Same problem here until NOW. Just spent the last hour trying to get it working.
After playing around with the file structure (copying files into sub folders etc.) I managed to finally update MyPOIs. Will test later tonight, fingers crossed.
Update:
Can confirm it works for me now. I get a chime when approaching the speed cams. Next step is to see if it is possible to make a louder chime or Speed Camera speech.
uploaded the working folder and file for those who have been struggling like me to get it working. Uploadfiles.io - MyPOIs.zip
Unzip then Just copy the file and folder to a USB.
Good luck

Reason: File Uploaded
Thanks! So you were not using the SD card to upload?
You mean I should use the USB port and upload it from there?
Make sure you have the file called "metainfo2' and the folder 'PersonalPOI' on the root of the USB or SDcard, whatever you are using. I use usb as it is easier to go from PC to car.

Only other option to try is going back to the previous MAP, 'maybe' it isnt compatible with updated map version. I did not install the new updated map that you have 'DiscoverMedia2_MRM2_2718_1010' as it doesnt support Traffic Messages that I prefer to keep.
