This is for Discover Media units only. There is another post later for Discover Pro units.
Uploadfiles.io - POI.zip
For me, I inserted the SD card and i waited a few minutes while it said "searching for update data" nothing was happening, fearing another fail attempt I cancelled it, and tried again. This time it went straight to the updating screen with the progress bar and Halelujah! POIs loaded

There is an easy way to upload POIs via Car-Net -> Car-Net. I'm not sure do you have free access to service for first few years like we have in Europe and also not sure what will be disabled after "trial" period.
To sync your car with Car-Net you can share network access from your mobile phone.
On the website there is also a description how to create a custom lists before upload.

Hoping someone here can help with my issues trying to update maps....I've read through this thread and a few others but can't seem to work out what's wrong.
I have one of the first boatload arrivals of the "new" Tiguan, back in Oct 2016. Looking at the original SD card in Slot 1, it's got the single "maps" folder, with several subfolders 21,22,23,24,27 and EEC. I believe mine is the DiscoverMedia model rather than DiscoverPro.
I went through the VW link posted earlier here, to download the appropriate map
Volkswagen Map & Softwareupdates
This downloaded a 6.91GB file "DiscoverMedia2_MRM2_2718_1010.7z" which when unzipped using 7zip, gave the exact same file structure as the original card, ie. single maps folder with the same subfolders as described above.
I copied the maps folder to a newly formatted FAT32 card (all using Windows), but when I inserted this new card into my Tiguan, keep getting the error message "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data".
I've re-checked the contents of my new card and can't find any weird hidden files. I've even tried downloading the DiscoverPro file which is a lot bigger with different folder structures, but that one obviously failed.
All assistance greatly appreciated, as I'm currently on map version MRM2 2016/17
