  • Tyre Pressure Tiguan

I've had my 2017 Tiguan for 6 months now and I got a Tyre Pressure warning on the rear right tyre.

I went to the servo and noticed that all tyres were at 38 PSI except for the one I got a warning on.

Anyway, I reduced all tyres to 35 PSI which I believe is the recommended PSI but I still get a warning on the rear right tyre.

I'm still getting this warning message.

    So...

    1. Do 2017 Australia Tiguans get tyre pressure indicators?

    2. This warning came up on my second 5 minute journey after I washed the tyres and gave them a good scrub. Is this coincidental?

    3. What tyre pressure do you guys set them too? Is 35 PSI the current recommendation?

The 2017 Tiguan do not get individual tyre pressure monitors. It does have sensors that track the difference in rotation speed of each axle.

There is a menu option in the Discover Pro that allows you to "Set/Store" the "current" value and it then monitors the differences across each axle. The warning indicator would "pop-up" when the difference reaches a predetermined value.

This process relies on you pumping up the tyres to a equal amount and then pressing the set button on the menu.

A possible reason the tyre pressure warning has not stopped could be that you need to "reset" the value in the Tyre section of the Discover Pro menu.

    David

You need to reset the TPM in the car settings in the media unit whenever you change pressures.

        32psi on 235/55 R18 on my Highline.
Looking for a softer ride around town. I hope that pressure is not too low and wearing too fast.

Have you noticed a softer ride with the lower pressures?

I did read about Jaguar F-Pace's owners doing the same and noticing a significant improvement in the ride. No long term reports on tyre wear yet tho.

If you get a low pressure warning on tyre A and tyres B,C & D are all a higher pressure then that means you probably have a slow leak in tyre A.

If you continue with the same strategy of reducing tyre pressures down to the lowest common denominator then eventually you will have 4 tyres at zero psi.

I've been setting mine to 260kPa hot so according to Bridgestone that should be about 245kPa cold which is right in the middle of the comfort and performance recommendations and seems to work well. PS I know I don't have Bridgestone tyres, but Hankook didn't have anything I could find.

Can anyone recommend a good quality, reliable tyre pressure gauge?
I don’t trust the servo air pumps, they’re always beat up with leaky hoses and often don’t read the same pressure twice in a row.
I’ve been meaning to buy a good quality one for years, but only see cheap crap in the stores.

                    Hi spacemannz,
there's a 2015 guide from Choice downloadable here: Choice Magazine's tyre gauge review | Latest News | HAIGH Australia PTY LTD

It's top recommendation is the Dr Air Dial Tyre Gauge 10-75psi TG3 which you can get from Autobarn for $13 or do.

Thanks OZROD - I would've paid up to $100 if it was decent and last me a lifetime (or at least as long as cars have air in their tyres).
I remember my Grandfather had a pen shaped one that was mechanical - nifty.

I use a Slime Is pretty acurate as i use my own twin compresser with a built in guage both match the same pressure

I thought the electronic ones aren't bad at servos, where you dial the PSI you want and it inflates accordingly

What is actually the recommended pressure that VW recommend?

I had to get a new Tyre because of a stupid nail (and couldn't be fixed) . Then i went to BP and saw that all my tyres were at 40 psi? I kind of think that's too high?

35 psi sounds like the correct pressure?
