well that's a fair opinion. the V6 in the Nav will be a fair machine, it is a Renault engine though so I'd be pretty cautious about reliability. No-one else has bothered with an engine like that, the Hilux still gets by with a 125kW/343Nm 3.0L and i've never heard anyone complain about a Hilux being underpowered

In other news, hold on to your butts, pricing lands on Monday

This isn't a standard option though, it will only be for the very top spec odel, kinda like toyota's (failed) TRD hilux, asking price will be between $60,000-$70,000. For a Navara?! Have driven a few over the D40 lifecycle, would I pay that much for one based on fit and finish etc? Not bloody likely! And with nissan/renault's reputation for diesel engine reliability over the past decade or so, I'd be vary wary of it. 3L turbo diesel in pootrol anyone....?

There is no doubt VW could have done with out the Nissan release just as the Rok is about to hit the streets, a distraction if nothing else, Even though it's only the top model a the moment Joe Public will still compare. Would I pay that for a Navy, not likely, for less dollars I'd be taking a optioned up T5 4motion dual cab home.

          cheers Pete

Well I owned a Hilux SR5 TDI until a few months ago, and I thought the engine was incredibly crude and gutless.

Sadly my interest in the Amarok died when I realised it would not be available with the 3.0 TDI. If it had that, and a reasonable tow limit (say 3000 kg and 250 kg ball) then I'd have one for sure.....

It's tow limit is 2800kg and 280 on the ball.

No leather interior option = Fail. The one displayed at the motor show had it!

Do they have any idea when an auto version will come to aid. Dad is interested as a replacement for his hilux which is about six months old! Lol
He bought it and two days later saw the amarok and decided he wants that when an autos available. (love my dad and his plans) :p

Auto is still at least 12 to 18 months away. Try the manual, it's actually very nice to drive as opposed most ute manuals.

If it were for me manual would be fine.
Dad can't drive manual very well though. So has to be auto

Found out about the TDI340 yesterday, looking like it'll be RWD only and available only in the Amarok - looks like they're using it to go after the fleets.
