Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Amarok tail gate lifter. EZ up or torsion spring?

Had the Amarok home delivered with gas 'slow down' struts fitted. $100. kaching!
Didn't realize that the torsion bar is an optional extra. Used to be standard last time I bought a vehicle with a tailgate.
Anywaaaaaay, faced with the dilemma now. Get the tailgate torsion bar spring fitted at the first service or buy the 'Slow Down/ EZ up' gas assist struts. Can get the gas struts for $140 delivered. But this means throwing out perfectly good struts at $100 for the pair.
Has anyone had any experience with the new gas lift struts?
