Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • surging, bucking, stalling very scary . help ...

Hi All this is my 1st post on this forum..
I Have a love hate relationship with my 2013 2.0 biturbo 8spd auto Amarok . always an electrical issue to deal with from sensors to door locks, egr etc . so now i have this issue to deal with ..... i love the amarok but i am close to ending our relationship after 3 years .
my symptoms are i start the Rok and drive could be 200m or 100m who knows at around 1500 rpm very light throttle light load... then whammo it starts to take off/ surge all by its self with no input from the driver. very scary..like a switch is turned on ....
it will surge buck then stall along with popping sounds from the turbos. starts back up fine and no warning lights.
plugged vcds in and no faults found with engine .

so i ran a turbocharger test from basic settings twice and got this fault once ( never by driving it though )

i took the air filter box off and it had a white soot / smoke residue inside is this caused by the inlet valve being open when it should not be ?

has anyone had the fault code or experienced surging bucking popping stalling without input from the driver ??

i cannot drive the Rok as it is ..seems weird that no MIL or warning lights show up..

please help ! many thanks Richard
