Long story short. I had the dreaded waste gate rattle on my 2014 Mk7 Gti. My car was out of warranty when I took it to my VW repairer (Wangara Volkswagen). They agreed that the waste gate was the problem and informed me that the only solution was a complete replacement of the turbo. Luckily for me the repairs were covered under good will ($4500 worth of repairs).

It seems like an expensive way of solving a waste gate rattle, unless the turbo was shagged and they wouldn't tell me.

I'm legitimately shocked this is happening to new models!

My Tiguan has the same TSI engine found in GTI's and I also experienced the metallic rattle under load, sounds like there's a bunch of nuts and bolts rattling around in a can under load, accentuated when it's cold.

The issue is with the wastegate actuator rod, in some instances there's a bit of play so it rattles under acceleration. VW and my tuner have both advised me it doesn't affect performance but it was driving me up the wall.

VW will typically install this clip over the rod:

The issue is that they have to get to the turbo so in my case they wanted to charge $398 (the clip only costs $8!) so I waited until I installed my DP and asked the tuner to pop it on for me. It hasn't gotten rid of the noise completely but it's much better now.

Given your car is new this should be covered by warranty. Don't let them fob you off.
