Mounted the Advan wheels on the car this morning, can't really feel any difference to the ride quality prolly bcoz they're 19's. They're an inch wider than stock (7.5" vs 8.5") with 235/35R19 rubber on so hopefully that won't change the driving dynamics of the car too much.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thought I'd finally post in here.
I wrote off my MK4 GTI about two months ago so was forced to find a car that was a bit comparable and in a hurry.
Was hunting for a manual and Scirocco R in particular as I never have more than one person in my car ever.
Couldn't access one to test drive, but saw the 40ED in DSG and sunroof. I liked how it drive and options and snapped it up. Carbon Steel. Too noticeable in white and red. No manuals available..
I'm moving closer to driving full paddles the more I drive it. There is something about the ratios that I just don't like, as well as the fact I have no control rolling and holding certain gears and rev points unless I go full paddle.
Torque wise it lacks what I had (400nm) in the old whip, but I will sort that out with an Oettinger tune and updated clutch.
Have read up about the OBD11 and VCDS so if anyone is in Sydney that can book a brother up with the voice and traffic options that would be great.
Will be heading for a decent drive soon. Don't want to write this one off in a hurry...

I'd like to get the traffic and voice option activated too. I had a search on eBay for a VCDS, they go for about $650 shipped...not prepared to pay that sorta money for a cable. If someone here can hook me up with a VCDS I would really appreciate that.VW MK7 Golf GTI 40 Years | White | DSG | JB1 | Advan Racing RS-DF | Michelin PSS | Current

+1 on the color, CSG is the fastest one isn't it?So loving the undercover look of mine (but only from a distance...!)
Re torque, I'm not saying it shouldn't have more power but the way it pulls at 120km/h in 4th gear is amazing, and that's without touching the overboost yet (only 400 km in). Oh and since it's a DSG you don't need an uprated clutch that's only an issue with the manuals. I also drive either fully manual (paddles) or D for city traffic.

You can always try VW warranty otherwise these will fit:

I've had the dragging on the drivers side. I thought it may have had something to do with the sealant on the windscreen I applied but this isn't the case.
In other matters, the ACC is confusing the hell out of me. Struggling to even set it up. Managed to do it once by accident!

I've come from a car that stood out given it had all the Oettinger bits in and out over it. Everyone on the road basically would take turns in trying to be a hero and traffic light GP (no interest to me) or be a general **** and not let me into a lane.
It hasn't been to that extent which is great. The sticker aren't really visible which doesn't worry me. I can imagine in the other colours where it is more obvious I would encounter some rude drivers on a more regular basis.

My wipers are dragging on the drivers side too. Gonna speak to VW Service about it when I get a chance.
On the way home from work last night, I stopped next to a MK7 GTI at the traffic lights. Was going to wind my windows down to say hi but when I looked across, the owner of the GTI didn't seem interested. Maybe he felt intimidated?
Btw, is anyone planning to do an ECU tune to their car? The reason I ask is because with stock wheels and tyres, my wheels spin if I apply full throttle from stationary. It doesn't happen with my Advan wheels and new tyres. If I add more power to the front wheels I'm worried that it'll wheel spin and torque steer like crazy. Your thoughts on that?VW MK7 Golf GTI 40 Years | White | DSG | JB1 | Advan Racing RS-DF | Michelin PSS | Current

I'm probably going to add more power at some point but not for drag-racing, that's not my thing. Get to 2nd gear though and it'll launch ahead pretty sweetly.

A mate of mine owns a tyre shop here in Sydney and he recommended the Hankook S1 Evo2. For the price you pay, you can't beat the performance you get out of them. They're no Michellin PSS but at 1/3 of the price, I'm not complaining. In fact, I have Hankook R-S3 (semi-slicks) on my Porsche too.
I went to a Porsche Drive Day a couple of days ago with those semi-slicks on, I was sliding all over the place. In those conditions (wet & cold) I think I would've enjoyed it more if I was in my GTI40. For those who are interested, this is a link to a short clip my wife filmed on the iPhone https://youtu.be/a-gg3Myqk7ULast edited by urxtream; 04-09-2016, 06:59 AM.VW MK7 Golf GTI 40 Years | White | DSG | JB1 | Advan Racing RS-DF | Michelin PSS | Current
