Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

There's a picture in the Wolfsburg thread that shows the changes, but they don't seem to apply to my R. For example, I don't have the drawer underneath the passenger front seat (I don't even know if this applies to Aussie models), and I still have the hard ESP button.

    • Anyone getting any good deals with the 1.8% finance deal going on at the moment?

I posted a comment on VW AU Facebooks page and had a customer service rep call who advised not all changes apply in AU. He said TJA is not available from factory in Australia due to the laws here, he reckoned if anyone has it, it is a modification of lane assist and not the true TJA. He also confirmed it can be enabled on some cars and he is aware of NZ dealers enabling it.

He sounded pretty sure of himself, but I still took it with a grain of salt. I forgot to ask why TJA is mentioned on the VW AU website...

          Yeah, 1.8% finance.

Is anyone actually getting a properly priced car under these offers? I understood it was based on rrp - in which case it will be cheaper to get your own finance and cut a deal on the car (unless you can only get really poor rates). And limited to base models.

            LOL
Well I took the M5, M7, and M4 today and I did not touch the gas/brake and barely the steering wheel, even at speeds of 10km/h or less.

On another note: has anyone noticed that sometimes it is possible to get the Discover Pro navigation on the AID and Waze on Android Auto at the same time? Most of the time you get some message about phone navigation being active, but sometimes you can fool it into displaying both.

My understanding is that these types of finance offers are where the manufacturer provides an incentive out of their margin on a vehicle. It has nothing to do with the dealers margin which they may choose to give some away to secure a sale.

They do this type of offer so as to not degrade the resale prices on the second-hand market too much. Rather than giving a cash discount off the purchase price of the vehicle which is what Hyundai used to do to clear their old stock.

The other thing manufacturers do is to load cars up with extras or offer dealers discounts to put cars on as demos.

Manufacturers will also tip onto their margin with corporate discounts on cars. But usually only on older models or once the initial wave of retail customers have left the showrooms.

Any manufacturer discount/incentive is worth taking when it’s offered. It usually means they have too much stock and are prepared to drop prices to shift it.

              • I've ordered a comfortline with 1.8% offer. Highline or performance golfs are not offered with1.8%.

Finance offer has nothing to do with the dealer. You do your own negotiation as normal. I'm not sure if its good or bad but I'm paying $33,500 for fully loaded silver comfortline with 5 year extended warranty.

On another note, I've just found out it's not possible to track the ship that the car is on with the VIN number on the 2wglobal website anymore. Does anyone know if there is any other way to find the ship's name and docking date?

                • I'm after some mudflaps for my MY18 TDI, will the mk7 ones fit the mk7.5? Just some cheapies from eBay will do the job but can't tell from the pics if there are any differences. Any advice?

                        That's a good deal then.

The car is priced right, and the finance deal is probably worth another $1-1,500 saving over other avenues.

                        • Sweet! I'll probably do a deal then, I guess asking for free auto or 10% might be a bit too much hahah. Should I bother waiting until the end of the month?

Last days of the month are almost always the best time to buy a car.

No. If it does rattle there’s an easy fix.
