Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Update: I have now experienced bottoming out on a (not particularly nasty looking) pothole. It was an unpleasant, but not horrible experience. I was running in comfort mode which does allow more body movement, so that may have contributed.

As I said previously, I don't think these cars have much travel in the suspension.

Not likely on mine. The ride is quite OK and changes noticeably when you change modes - if the pucks were still in it would ride harshly on bumps all the time, and not change much in different modes. I would be very surprised if VW had left the shipping pucks in for cars they were taking to a media drive day.

        • Has anybody here been quoted changeover from a Mk 7 standard GTI to a Mk 7.5 standard GTI ?

I realise the new one would only give me better headlights, a few extra horses and Apple Airplay but I'm still toying with the idea

I'd go same spec as a I have now ... manual, sunroof and DAP.

i see some youtube videos of the 7.5 gti's with running led indicator rear lights, don't remember seeing them like that on the display car. could some one confirm.
Also, does the driver assist feel any different(better) that the 7 gti?
Yupe... got mine and it doesn’t come with running led indicators rear lights.

            • The production date on my Mk7.5 is 13 June 2017 but the VIN lists it as a 2018 model. I've got it insured as a 2017 since they didn't have 2018 and it had the correct engine power for the Trendline (coz it jumped from 92kW to 110kW) so I figure it's close enough.

              • Have put an order in today. Currently awaiting finance approval.

Pure White GTI DSG with infotainment pack and 2 year extended warranty for 52k.

Was told that there some sort of worldwide shortage on the active info display and they said it may be a 6 month wait...

After finance gets approved i was told that they would be searching for the car? and I would get a better indication on delivery time.

Oh well, I prefer the look of the Mk7 GTI anyway.

That's actually a pretty fair changeover before any serious haggle.

Trade for a 2015 GTI manual is $22-25k at best, and a new manual GTI with DAP and sunroof would list for $50k odd in Victoria.

I'm not saying it's a good deal - there isn't enough in the new car to warrant changing over, but a dealer's got to have a margin somewhere, there really isn't much in it on new cars.

There might be room to get it down to $20k odd, but to expect it to dip below that is pretty unreasonable.

Yeah they didn't really budge. The best i could do was get 2 year extended warranty thrown in which is worth 1800.
