Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Probably stirring up a hornet's nest but was wondering if you had any thoughts on OptiCoat v Gtechniq Ceramic? Kinda thinking ahead about what I want to put on the car and kinda debating between these two, wondering if you had any experience/knowledge on it.

Pomponazzi sounds great but might be a bit too much $$$ outlay. Agree with you Kachingg paint correction pretty important.

I think opti-coat pro + looks ok , but all the ceramic pro coats look more glossier than opti.
I'm going to get Pomponazzi. I know it cost more, but f@$k it[emoji23]

      • Fleet Price I was quoted for DSG with DA was about $54K. I paid 55K for DSG at Corporate pricing when MK7R released (had to wait about 3 months before corporate price)

I do think 58k possible for fully optioned with corporate discount. Otherwise I'd expect around 60k. They must not have the same wiggle room as Audi and BMW as most can get 20-25% off. Prices jump lots with options, many paying low 70's for optioned S3 sedan (with 20%) discount.

I know we paid 66k for stock s3 sedan 2 years ago and recently got FL 2017 model novated lease for $57K a good 10K cheaper than you could get privately.

It's great case for the 7.5R buying private as good 10k+ cheaper than S3 for basically same car. If leasing and cost almost identical we chose Audi as wife's car and wanted sedan.

It's all win for you guys getting the 7.5 as everything greatly improved but cost stayed the same.

        • most paint protection are all the same.. opti coat is good but very much the same as protekive, which is motorone product sold in most of the dealerships most of these types of paint protection are sold for 1000 upto 2500. Pomponazzi is a new product to me and my understanding with the product is the do a 3 stage paint correction first before applying the product to the car this can be a good thing and a bad thing if you have someone that isn't or hasn't got any idea on what they are doing can destroy the paint work on the car. it may look perfect when you pick it up but over a number of weeks it will show tell tail signs of a **** job then most company's will not cover your warranty's if you attempt to fix the issues.

          things to look out for

dealerships will try and sell you products called

          protekive or permaguard or autoguard

protekive is a great product but it's sold to the dealership for $450 dollars a pac that's interior and exterior the dealership will then on sell for more than 1500 to 2k

permaguard is not a ceramic paint protection it is applied on with a buffing machine and is also sold for around the same price

autoguard is a product sold to people with leasing options most of there products are about as good as the the local supercheap auto

opti coat is pretty big in detailer path and normal starts pricing around 800 to 1500

pomponazzi I have heard can be anywhere from 1500 to 3000 depending on what you want done

most paint protection packages I sell are on the cheaper side most start from 350 upto 800 with window tint as I don't believe in ripping people off..

          • Hi Ground_Level, thanks for the explanation.
I'm new to this stuff so don't know anything about it.
Which is the stuff that protects the car from stone chips? That's the main thing I want. No sure if I want paint correction. What's it involve? Is it basically re spraying the car with the same colour paint?

            Cheers

            • Paint correction is buffing the paint back to remove orange peel and any factory defects before appling paint protection over the top no paint protection out there will stop stone chips the closest thing is a clear car bra applied almost like book contact and will go on the front to then protect it from bug stains and stone chips

              • Thanks for the explanation Ground_Level.

I doubt very much my dealer will be throwing anything in with the pricing I'm getting - so I'm happy to go elsewhere. Any recommendations for tint and coating in Melbourne? I remember looking when I first picked up my Rline, and there didn't seem to be that many people who wanted to do the tinting of the Golf due to the front triangle windows (admittedly, I didn't really look that hard).

                • I used the ultimate detailer to opticoat my car 3 yrs ago. (SE Melb) Dan Was fantastic. Great reviews on facebook and forums about him.
I think now he uses pomponazzi instead of opticoat. None of them protect against stone chips or scratches but day to day maintenance very easy. 3 years on and still looks as shiny as ever.

I've been recommended to Dan as well. He is using Pomponazzi now.

                      • I was watching a video on YouTube about the R in USA, if we thought we had it had bad that the R doesn't get the Dynaudio unless you go Wolfsburg. USA miss out on the new engine and the 7 speed gearbox and I think the sunroof ( not sure on sunroof though).
So yeah, I'd take no dynaudio over no new engine and transmission any day. Still pissed at lack of dynaudio though! Lol

                            • For those that have dynaudio, does the sub in the boot actually replace the spare wheel or does it sit on top of it? If it does replace the spare wheel, is that even legal, I thought all car's have to have a spare wheel?

Sub sits inside of the spare wheel, it's designed to fit inside to save space
