Man, this wait gonna kill me.... I been constantly watching YouTube vids of the car and I can't freekn wait.
I must say, the GTI def looks meaner and better than the R, I just love the Red line at the front of the car and also how it now wraps around the front DRLs. Also the Red stitching in the interior looks so much better.
They could have put like a blue linein at the front of the car for the R, or yellow or another colour, they could have differentiated the R from the rest.
Anyway power and 4 wheel drives makes up for that
My dealer said they will be registering the R they have in the showroom hopefully next week so I can take it for a test drive/spin soon. Can't wait, never driven an R or 4 wheel drive in a sports car. Just wish it looked meaner than the GTI.
You can drive the r now. I did 3 weeks ago. So have others
Wookie, that is a ripper of a price. I went thru a new car broker who had a group buy of 7 VWs together, at the end of the financial year, and you still beat me. And I'm not even getting the sunroof.
I laid down a deposit two days ago with a dealership in maitland NSW.
Any colour (haven't chosen exact colour yet, most likely blue) with DSG, Drivers assist, and sunroof, mk7.5 Golf R for 59200 drive away
includes weather sheilds and boot liner
So if you are not at least getting 60, id be shopping around.
I do need to travel 3 hours to pick my car up when it comes in, but im saving 4grand on what another dealer who is 20 minutes from me quoted the day before.
I also mentioned to the dealer closest to me the price i was quoted and she was stunned, and said that she has no idea how they can do it at that price, unless they lose money. Not sure how true that is.
Dont have a delivery date yet, but most likely end of the year, or jan, feb, march next year.
I don't understand how you people are getting 58k, no dealers would budge for 60k for me. Are you doing finance or corporate? I just cannot believe 58k fully optioned, price sounds too good.

I’ve only seen posts about pricing for fully specced Rs...
What can one expect to negotiate for a baseline (no DAP or sunroof) manual R? Is 50k achievable?

I have to agree. They sound like mistakes that the dealers will only realise later on.
2017 - Golf R 7.5 - Blue - DSG - Proper Roof - DAP - Res' delete - Dynaudio delete
2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.
Update from North Queensland: I plonked a deposit on the last of 3 allocated Wolfsburgs at my local dealer - no haggling as it is specualtive pending a drive of the R and the GTI back to back and there is no dealer competition up here! $63,400, no sunroof. If I opt for the GTI or change to a standard R I will see what they come to the table with, but they had people lined up for the Wolf's here. Got the email today from VW saying the order is in the system. I have a commissioning number, that is all, so waiting to see what kind of build date they can predict soon.
I've been so amazed at the 58k prices some are getting and after doing the numbers (unless it's manual, but still hard to believe) I can't see how you managed to get it for in the 50s, the dealers would be making next to nothing or even a loss on it...
The car costs in the 50k mark, add sunroof and DAP and it's around 53k, then stamp duty, rego and GST and it's in the 60k range... that's not including dealer delivery (which is a BS ripoff anyway) so they would have had to drop it all together. So yeah hard to believe to price as the numbers don't show it.
Anyways, congrats on the prices guys! Really amazing prices!

It comes down to your location as regos and stamp duty's change what the dealers can offer you at the time.. so someone's price in VIC will be different to someone in SA, also if these people are doing leasing options that can also affect the price. so most dealers here wont drop lower than 62 700 and 62 500 for a fully option mk7.5 R I managed to get my fully optioned Wolfs for $62600.00

Yeah, and some members here will be buying through fleet (Novated lease, usually) and I that can reduce price significantly. My understanding is that dealers make money with 'Dealer Delivery', and will likely get a commission on per unit sold as well, and probably some percentage of any add ons that are included.
Changing topic - is anyone doing paint protection/tinting with the dealer? I didn't opt it for my current Golf, but I did get paint protection for my previous 86 through Toyota and was a bit disappointed.

Best not to get done at dealers, goto a good detailing place and get paint correction and then paint protection.

I'm getting Tint done, not paint protection.
Still researching the benefits of paint protection to see if it's worth it. Never done it before and my car's have still looked great, still have the odd bloody stony chips though.

Hey mate
Please dont get paint protection with the dealer its a ripoff scam for them i was quoted 2k from my dealer and shopped around and could have got the exact same thing for $350!!
I went with a aftermarket protection but most important is paint correction BEFORE any coating
Check out my thread in the detailing forum under pomponazzi paint protection i have photos of before paint correction and after
As for tinting i got the dealer to throw it in for free if yours does not want to i bet another would to get the sale
