Golf R 7.5 Performance Pack shown at Geneva Motor Show

Most of you have probably seen the Golf R 7.5 PP shown at the Geneva Motor Show by now, but I came across these photo's of the Recaro race seats that appear to be fitted to a similar coloured R 7.5, which also has the Akrapovic exhaust with the black coloured tips instead of the silver tips normally shown.

The seats look incredible, but I have not seen them as an option on the list for the R 7.5. Does anyone have any info on them? I note the yellow pin stripe on the seats, both front and rear, so I assume that this stripe will be colour matched to whichever colour you chose for your R? These seats have been available in previous versions of R's, but not to this high standard before.

The R at the Geneva MS is also showing the carbon mirror caps and the full black roof.

They're amazing. I love the yellow and how they've integrated the colours in the seats. I suspect the price would be out of this world too.

I've placed a deposit for wolfsburg hatch, was told delivery October but from various dealers I have heard nov-dec, jan-feb. Assuming all 300 units are produced in one go, I am thinking 1st quarter 2018 (jan-mar) for delivery

If you can lease then price I got FL S3 sedan was 57k and could get m140i same price. Pretty awesome considering both were about 75+k full RRP with few options.

The MK7R was 54k so very minimal discount by VW compared to Audi or BMW.

There is no way I could see anyone getting FL S3 privately under 65k.

For me I'd need to get 7.5 for 55-57 to choose it over the S3 sedan. At 10k price difference I'd choose 7.5R but 5k or less I'd select S3 sedan every single time!

Excuse my ignorance buy why such a discount with leasing? Just interested as it may make it a more viable option for us in the future if getting such a discount RRP.

My guess is it's because the leasing company take into account how much the car will be worth at the end of the lease, compare that to what will be owing on it and apply that up front to make the lease payments lower.

For example, say I buy a Golf R for $53,000 and pay it down over 3 years to a balloon payment of 45% or $23,850. Reckon on just shy of $1000 a month. However, a 3 year old Golf R is worth a bit more than $23k (the cheapest on carsales is $38k) so when I sell it, I give $23k to the finance company and I pocket the other $10k to $15k or so. All of a sudden my $36,000 in repayments has balanced out at somewhere between $19k to $26k. Or say $530 to $720 a month.

With a lease, I don't sell the car, I just give it back. That's a pretty rubbish deal for me so the lease company might give me a discount up front otherwise why would I bother? Unless my repayments are closer to $700 a month. That's like doing a private loan on, roughly, a $30,000 to $40,000 car but not taking many money when you sell it.

A lease also takes servicing and tyres into account so that makes things a bit more difficult but you get the drift.


Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about. The above is all a guess. Happy to hear from someone else who might be an accountant

Cheers, makes sense, without the option to sell the vehicle at the end might not stack up. I will check with the accountant, next time we are shopping!

generally speaking, the leasing company might have fleet discounts with manufacturers so they could source the vehicle on your behalf at a very competitive price.

Golf R specs mention electric seat with memory function. How is the memory function operated? e.g. his and her keys, buttons on the seat or via the infotainment screen?

Looking at the other models in the VW range with this function, it looks like there will be 2-3 buttons on the side of the seat with a SET button. Nothing confirming this for the Golf but I'd be surprised if they changed it from that.

Thats a good question toggle i thought it was with the keys.. a button on the side of the seat not as cool imo
