Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • still enjoying it, and as others have pointed out, getting speeding fines is just going to be cost of ownership.

    Couple questions...

Don’t like how it turns off automatically when I park at home, how do I turn this off?

Also, it says in the handbook that there is a code on the adaptor to remove the anti theft wheel nuts. Clearly, the code would be important if you lose the adaptor. Where else should I be looking for the code?

    • My 7.5 is just over 1 year old now. She is working great. A fraction under 10000km old.
I gave her a full clean and clay with wax for her birthday. The paint is still in very good nick as it lives inside and vey rarely sees parking under trees...The tank is full, time for a scenic drive.
How is your 7.5 Wolfsburg going?

Mine is going well. I'm very happy with it.

I haven't done much in the way of mechanical mods so far, except for the low dust pads on F & R brakes. This has fixed the typical VAG "dirty wheels" problem, now I need a solution for the black tailpipes (but if that involves never using the available performance I don't want to know ! I'll just keep washing it regularly)

Mine is coming up for its 1st service shortly, time does indeed fly when you are having fun. This one is going to be a keeper, it's such a versatile car.

          • Golf R to Amarok...again

About 3 years ago I toyed with the idea of swapping the Wunder Wagon for an Amarok so we could buy a second hand camper trailer and go camping more often. I didn’t do it then but a recent health issue has caused some rejigging of priorities in this household.

My wife has OK’d the camper trailer https://mountaintrailcampers.com.au/...EDX-Review.pdf 😀 and we’re heading off for a couple of months in December.

Which means I need a tow tug. An Amarok V6 is on its way and therefore the Wolfsburg has to go ☹️

Anyone interested please see below. Price is negotiable.

            MY 18 Wolfsburg Wagon
            Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.

Previous - Mk 6 R manual; Mk 7 R manual; Passat 130 TDi Wagon. Mk 7.5 Wolfsburg Wagon.

                  • LOL - yeah it is pretty ordinary; at least the fronts look half ok. But the cars running BBKs certainly look a whole lot better (although it's a fair investment).

Funny how I never noticed them. BBKs?

What pads did you get? I hate the dust.
How are they different to stock for pedal feel, performance and squeal?

I know this post is from a long time ago, but do you have photos of the roof rails enufz?

I'm looking for a non Wolfsburg Golf R wagon (but this seems to be unofficial Golf R wagon thread) and don't really want to wait the 4 months for manufacturing (I'm in Europe). A good/bargain 0km car is for sale but it has the damn silver roof rails.

My guess is painting them black means you can never actually use the roof rails again...? And from what I've read it's a huge job to make the swap?

Keen to hear from anyone who has more info.

Sorry for the late reply, I only just noticed your question.

I had ATS low dust ceramic pads fitted. They have slightly less initial bite compared with the OEM pads, but really pull you up if you push harder on the brake pedal. I haven't ever worked them really hard, they aren't marketed as a performance pad for hard road use or track work. I have had zero squeal so far (and they've been fitted for over 12 months). They are supposed to be fitted to new or near new discs.

I can confirm it's a big job to replace the roof rails. All the fixings are from below the roof skin, which means removing all lights, switches, trims etc in the ceiling to get at the nuts.

I actually bought a s'hand set of black roof rails for my wagon intending to change the std silver ones my wagon came with. Once I realised how big a job it was and the potential problems I could cause I lost enthusiasm very rapidly. I sold them to another wagon owner with the same idea, but as he has never responded with how the swap went I guess he also went cold on the idea.

If you are more dedicated than me then good luck with the change.

Thanks Greg, I've since discovered vinyl wrapping could also be an option. I have to figure that once you do it though, using the rails is no longer possible..
