Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
Thanks DV52,
interestingly I dont have the same advanced options as the screenshot...no rds tick box.
Might be related to tmc not being enabled though. I’m gonna check with the dealer to see if it in theory was supposed to be active.
cheers
Schvengb: If you don't have this part of the screen, then it likely means that the RDS facility hasn't been enabled in the MIB control module. It's not difficult to enable the facility, you just need to have a diagnostic cable. It's simply a matter of setting Byte 13, Bit 0 - and enabling Radio Text is done by setting Byte 13, Bit 3 -see below. The screen shot comes from the Information Electr. module @ address hex5F

Just noticed mine doesn't work as well on my 7.5 R. Work on my 7 GTI...
I all the options enabled. I'll mention it to the dealership when I take it back in on Friday and see if they can enable it.

Hi Don,
So ive coded the changes above using obd (first time user) but alas I’m still not seeing the option to turn on the rds facility in settings. Is there a trick to resetting the discovery pro unit?
I also note that byte 13 bit 2 is enabled in my car....changing it didn’t seem to affect the rds facility however.
cheers

scratch that....I missed the “wait about an hour” step. The RDS option is indeed there this morning...TMC working perfectly.
Thanks for the assistance Don!

Hi
I just bought a 2nd hand 2018 Tiguan Highline R-Line, with the fancy media interface and having read this thread I’m hoping someone can confirm if RDS and TMC is still able to be enabled via OBD11 - and if so, what version I need to be able to enable it? Do I need the pro version or just the standard version with some credits?
Thanks for your help.
David

You need a Pro version to make it worthwhile Credits soon run out and you can only top them up by buying them or reading 5 ads a day on your phone and must be 24 hour apart
Presumably you have the MMI with the flat face , no knobs.

Hillbilly: It's not a matter of "to make it worthwhile"!! The crucial issue in the decision to buy (or not to buy) a PRO version is that the base version of OBD11 will NOT allow user access (at all) to either long-code, or adaptation channels, or basic settings, or output data.
The only way that the base model can access the module to make changes is via APPs. I'm not sure if there is a Tiggy APP for TMC, but if it exists, I doubt whether it will consider the status of the RDS software switches in the hex5F module long-code

@dmccook: hopefully the video below is worthwhile (the video shows first generation devices, but the content is valid for nextgen dongles:

What i meant by worthwhile is exactly that Buying a starter pack that only has credits is like buying a car with no tyres. A bit of a waste of time. You get the same results virtually from a $35 Kmart one
If you are going to buy one its worthwhile paying more and getting the pro version
I fully realise what it can and cant do and while i dont have your electronic expertise have managed fine so far with my second hand pro version

Thanks heaps guys,
This is essentially what I was trying to confirm - whether the TMC & RDS mods were part of an app, or needed separate coding.
I couldn’t see an app for TMC - I tried asking on the OBD11 site but haven’t heard back.
Looks like I should get the pro, or put up with the car as it is!
Does the OBDeleven give the same functionality as the VAG-COM cable type scanner from Ross Tech??
For instance, will I be able to enable DSG paddles on my T6.1 transporter if I get a paddle shift steering wheel for it?

David.
TMC is by adaptation so a PRO is needed There is NO app for it.
No it isnt as comprehensive as VCDS but for the average guy it does 90% for half the price
I doubt about the paddles with it but DV52 knows more than me. Paddles I wouldnt worry Its not a supercar and Ive got them and I think Ive used them twice in 2 years.
Would consider in a van to be a waste of money

Having had a Polo for about 8 years and a T5 van both with DSG and no paddles, it drove me crazy that I couldn’t easily shift down for corners. So I drove the Polo in S all the time.
Of course now that I have a 162kW Tiggy with paddles, I dont need them much because it have heaps of power out of corners. DOH.
My T6.1 wont have S, thanks to VW dropping the dual mode gearshift just as I ordered one. So I have to wait and see what the D mode is like in the new van once it is loaded up...
One supplier in UK reckons the paddle shift steering wheel will be plug and play in the T6.1 because we’re getting it with ACC and MFSW etc. fingers crossed...
I reckon paddles are great, even if I dont use them all the time. Each to their own.
Looks like I should get the pro, or put up with the car as it is!
David: why do you need to put-up with either scenario? Shirley there must be someone in Canberra who owns either an OBD11 dongle, or VCDS and is willing to lend a hand? The TMC tweak ain't exactly rocket science (in fact, it's very simple) and for the price of a slab, it might be a very inexpensive solution.

hmm...... without overstating the obvious, they are similar - but different devices:
VCDS now has a "unique" pricing option that can limit the number of VINs and OBD11 doesn't do this (yet?).
VCDS has a fixed cable version device as well as a cable/wifi-dongle device and OBD11 only has Bluetooth dongles.
VCDS doesn't require good internet reception at the place-of-use and OBD11 does have this requirement.
VCDS works on MS Windows and there is also a VCDS-Mobile APP and OBD11 will operate on both Android and iOS
ATM is rather severely limited in IOS for long coding especially but is still being developed

Ah - that sounds very appealing. For one thing I’m not sure if I want to do more than about 2 changes, and I’d also really like to find someone who knows what tehyr’e doing. (Pity I dont have any faith in Canberra’s dealers.) ;-\

As an Apple user, that’s a + for OBD11, if it can do what I want. I have virtual windows pcs but try to avoid it if I can. (Let’s not start that discussion here)
Thanks again for your help.
I love this forum but find it tragic that I have to go to a public forum to find reliable information about my expensive new car.
