    Depends on the dealer, I suppose, but both VW's I've owned have had the maps updated when serviced.

    I only found the current one had been updated when I went to set up a new address and had to change the method — they didn't mention it, although the service rep did tell me of an update to the car's management (which he said I wouldn't notice, but in fact the car is much more biddable now — particularly reversing.)

    The nav update wasn't a full replacement — all ID numbers are unchanged, but there are now a lot of files dated June 2014.

    Actually, I don't use the satnav very much, usually only for the last kilometre in an unfamiliar area, where it's often quicker than digging out a map.

      yeah i would love to get the alarms for the '$peed camera$' when driving down to Sydney.
      Far Canal. They are a joke.
      I had an app on my Google phone, but it was alerting after the camera$.

        What my dealer has said regarding an update for the maps.
        "Unfortunately the Sat Nav map updates aren't due out for the Golf until the last quarter of 2015 at this stage."
        Long wait if we can't get these maps to work!

              So I've extracted the files now, I'm a bit confused, do i do a straight extraction from the zipped files onto the SD card or can I just copy over the extracted files to the SD card? The whole group of folders right?

                Downloading the 13.5GB maps for the nav pro, on an NZ (very bad) connection it's going to take some time, think I'll do one file a night = 14 files = 2 weeks!!

                  All files/folders (and folder structure) need to be placed at the root of the SD card. It does not matter if you extract the files/folders to a location on PC and then copy them to SD card or if you extract directly to the SD card.

                  I personally prefer extracting to PC first to ensure there are no errors with the compressed file and then copy to SD.

                  PS - Don't forget to backup the existing files/folders from the SD card onto PC/HDD/??? (just make sure you have a backup).

                    Nope didn't work on mine. Thought it had because it loaded everything up and started working than a warning came up saying not recognised or something along those lines about 5 seconds after loading up. I've got a V1 SD Card in my system.

                        Followed the instructions off the linked website. Copied the original card content onto pc, formatted card then extracted the files onto pc then copied over to the sd card. Then just put the card back into card slot 2, and it worked straight away.

                        Maybe it has to do with the v1/v2?

                          I too think it is the card. Has to be, otherwise so many people cannot go wrong. Please update us if you notice any difference in this update. Thanks

                                V1 cards have the following DbInfo file. You can see the 022 in the system information screen.

                                PartNumber2="5G0919866A "
                                PartNumber3="5E0919866A "
                                PartNumber4="5F0919866A "
                                ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0022"
                                SystemName=" ROW 2013 "

                                V2 cards are 027

                                V3 (new maps) are 031
