Are we confident in the dealers skills here? I wouldn't think they'd be too experienced in these upgrades??

    • I know, but I am worried I may break them if I try fitting it myself. Coding I can manage but fitting them I am little worried. Although this thread has too much information on DIY. I prefer dealer to fit it and I will code it. Hopefully everything goes well.

      • Um, I am pretty sure that you need more than just the DAP2 versions of the mirrors. There are the radar units under the rear bumper and calibration.

        • Hi booba, forgive my ignorance, but why? car is already equipped with dap2 which has all these and fully functioning blind spot monitoring system. Mirrors just doesn't fold. Which is what I am trying to update. Correct me if you think I would still need more than these three parts.

          • Foldable mirrors appear to be ridiculously expensive. Quoted$1999 plus 5 hours labour to fit

            • Im following this thread with interest guys. Would love to make this happen on my Wolfsburg wagon without losing blind spot indicator, mirror heater, reverse parking turn down, etc. It's quite amazing the amount of features and tech are packed into a simple side mirror these days!

I was quoted about half that (I think that was including labour).

That was months ago though, & the company has been through some management changes so not sure what it'd cost these days.

                • Hello, i am new member here,
My Golf 1.6 TDI Bluemotion is about 9 months old.
I order via ebay a set of genuine used folding mirrors, controllers, and switch.
As i had already mirror dipping function i didn't replace the passenger controller and everything worked with that side.
                  My old driver's controller was low spec 5Q0 959 393 D and i replace it with a 5Q0 959 593 B version(we have LHD in Greece).
Right away i noticed some problems.
                  1. orange led in lock switch did not work ( switch worked fine)
                  2. Puddle lights did not work on the mirror
                  3. My windows did not work most of the time. I turn the key off and back on and they worked fine, but i tested again after 10 min. they stopped working.

I email the seller and VW told him that:
"The problem is you need to go to the Vw store, they must put online coding of Both driver controllers ( 42 and 52). In odis you can say under interactive function " coding " than everything wil work only folding mirror not, but this you can code with vcds."

His english is not very good but what does he mean by interactice function coding?
Anyone know what may have cause this? I only suspect a faulty controller.

                    RAINFALLGR:Χαίρετε!

The "mirror dipping function" that your car had prior to retrofitting the mirror items is very different to the folding mirror facility (the former dips when you put the car in reverse, whilst the latter folds/unfolds when you operate the keyfob/ignition cycle):

So, from my understanding of your story, if you simply added folding mirrors to a car that previously didn't have folding mirrors, you will need to re-code the passenger and driver's side door control modules (@ hex address 42 & 52). For this, you will need to have access to a VCDS cable. It is entirely unnecessary to spend money at the dealer to use their ODIS - you can do all the changes with a VCDS cable

You will find the complete set of instructions on how to do this HERE (the VCDS coding changes are near the end of the document)
                    Prost
                    Don

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

                    • Thank you for your answer.

I have a VCDS cable and did the coding. As my passenger's controller was high spec ( 592 edition), i did not replace the controller, just coded with VCDS cable and worked ok.

My Driver's controller was low spec (393 edition) and i replace it wish a used high spec (593) controller. I coded with VCDS cable again but controller was acting very weird.

Seller told that i need "ONLINE CODING" via ODIS. so today i visited my dealer. And coded the controller for my car.
All the problems solved, but controller need again coding with VCDS cable. i recoded and everything is working fine.

So for all the folks outthere that are planning this convertion keep in mind that if you replace the Door controller you need to go to VW and do a "online coding" via ODIS.

                      • I have the following door control modules, would these work for folding mirror mod..?
                        Passenger door control unit: 5Q4959592CZ03
                        Drivers door control unit: 5Q4959593CZ03

I believe you do as the numbers matches up with what RAINFALLGR has stated ie Passenger door control unit: 5Q4959592CZ03
                          Drivers door control unit: 5Q4959593CZ03

How do you check what control unit you have? Must you pull apart the door trim?

                          • VCDS Adpmap shows these numbers in control module 42 and 52
                            ;SW:5Q4-959-592-C HW:5Q4-959-592-B --- Door Elect Pass. (52)
                            ;SW:5Q4-959-593-C HW:5Q4-959-593-B --- Door Elect Driver (42)
and the local dealer gave me the exact part numbers based on my VIN.
I read RAINFALLGR comments, my understanding is if the last 3 digits are 5 series, especially 592 and 593 then they will work. I just wanted to double check. Now would these controller work with these mirrors LHS-5G2 857 507 CC and RHS-5G2 857 508 AK for MK7 highline with DAP2,am I in the right track....?

                            • MRG, sorry I can't actually help you out here since I haven't done this and am no expert at it either. On a different note, how much did Adam quote you for the mirrors and switch plus postage? I ask because VW Central (VW Central) is quoting $1000 for the parts.

                              • Prices are in my earlier posts back in April or May , I was quoted same in Canberra yesterday. However quote to fit the mirrors is over 600. So once all confirmed I am doing it myself
